I have one and have seen others, This one has 5 results turned in between 30 Jan, to 3 Fab.

This may be a good thread to list yours like that in case they want to check them out.

Cheers
Ray

One point about your workunit, Ray, is the cpu times for "successful" results - ranging from 1.95s to over 19000s. It is difficult to suppose that all these results can be consistent with each other. Here is a similar one that I have just noticed

I don't think that it matters that this WU hasn't validated, but maybe it's time to remove it from the database, just as housekeeping.

also this needs to be purged from database

the other results are valitaded but this it's still in the initial phase.

if the site admin can delete this, i don't care about credits

Why is it we get this same issue coming up time and again?

Yes, some units get lost along the way. There are several reasons and they've all been discussed over and over again. The redundancy built into BOINC deals with the computing requirement, and the project gets its results.

The orphaned units are of little consequence. There are a few hundred, maybe a few thousand, on the database. A study on LHC can generate a million results or more, so a few thousand is less than 1%. Removing these units manually will likely cause more problems than it solves, so the admins don't do it.

For those worried by this maybe you should look here

if the results are correctly assimilated in the science database it's not a big problem for the project.

personally i don't like to see these results on my results page :)

How long do the results (any results) stay on the page until they are deleted?

The project may chose a delay to apply before deleting assimilated workunits, or it may simply be due to the backlog on the servers. These workunits have not been assimilated, or ther is another error that is preventing them from being dealt with, other than manually.

Mike is correct in that posting them here does little, other than possibly alerting the developers to the existence of these orphaned workunits. Due to the fact that this project periodically runs the work out, I suspect they notice these then anyway. (although they seem to have chosen not to correct them at this time.) Actually, because these studies build on each other, we can be sure that any lost WU whose configuration would be interesting would be noticed in the later study...

Anyway, they most likely would do any deleting not from the workunits that we post here, but from an analysis of the database, so a bunch more posts of WUs here isn't worth much.

It would seem that the admins are not doing anything about these orphaned results. I have two from April 2005. The most annoying thing about them is that they prevent me from deleting some old hosts. I have a couple of computers I switched to Linux and I would like to delete the old windows host ID to clean up my stats but I can't until all the results are purged. Not a major headache I suppose but an annoyance nonetheless.

I've seen a few of those myself after each "wave" of Work generation.

But so far (after a while), they were always validated & credited at once. I guess someone is periodically running a cleanup script to finally purge these Units off the validator.
