I've installed BOINC 5.2.13 for x86/Linux on a cluster of mine, and its running well. However, I would still like to give preference to users who login directly to the nodes. I've configured the following, but interactivity still feels sluggish. In fact from Ganglia, I noticed that BOINC has not suspended. Anyone knows why? Configuration: General Preference: Do work while computer is running on batteries? no Do work while computer is in use? no Do work only after computer is idle for: 5 minutes Do work only between the hours of: (no restriction) Leave applications in memory while preempted? no Switch between applications every: 60 minutes On multiprocessors, use at most: 8 processors Thanks for your help! |

I've installed BOINC 5.2.13 for x86/Linux on a cluster of mine, and its running well. However, I would still like to give preference to users who login directly to the nodes. Not used BOINC 5, but BOINC 4 wouldn't recognise people connecting in via ssh - there was something about it in one of the Wikis/FAQ lists. It might also fail to recognise logins through the GUI - what happens if you come in through a tty? (There was a -check_all_logins switch to the CLI client that might help) interactivity still feels sluggish...It shouldn't really be noticable if something's just using all the background CPU... worth checking that the project executable has actually been nice'd to 19 though. Of course if you're low on memory and things start swapping it's another matter. One thought - the machines had actually picked up the new preferences from the server when you tried? Hth Henry |
