I have recently downloaded BOINC on one of many computers connected by LAN at my workplace. When I typed in the URL in the required field I got the message that the URL is incorrect & not of any BOINC based project. On the message board I am gettingthe error message: Couldn't resolve hostname. How can I reconfigure the firewall to get past the problem?

I assume you have the hostname correct. If so, then the message means that the BOINC client couldn't look up the host name. i.e. Your computer has no access to a name server.

How you reconfigure the firewall depends on a whole raft of different things: the topology of your network, the type of firewall you have and lastly are you allowed the access you seek?

Post a few more details, starting with the hostname you're trying to use, and we'll see what we can turn up. I am NOT asking for a detailed breakdown of your LAN, just a general overview.
