You didn't do anything wrong but your computer did because the result seems to be invalid("validate state" says "initial"). It's not a big problem, unless of course, it happens very often.

I also have and have had invalid results, mainly because of improper exiting of the BOINC-application.

Well, in theory it should have been flagged as invalid if it was. i thought it might have been the return date, but, nope ... best guess was that it WAS invalid, but was not flagged as such by the validator for one reason or another.

One point to watch is that you are using a substantially older processor and it MAY be a little out of "tune" with the FPUs of the later generations. Are you seeing a lot of these? Left in initial or invalid?

LHC@Home is "odd" as compared to most of the rest of the projects in that there is a very high degree of accuracy required for work to validate.

I can't find that wu - is it very old?

If it came in late and the other results had validated and had been purged from the system, then it might get stuck like this, always waiting for a validation that in fact has already happened.

It is this workunit. It came in before the quorum was reached thus it has to be an invalid result.

Actually, the quorum had been formed. Min Quorum is 3, and it was formed on the 7th, his result came in on the 8th, and the last sometime later (13th?) and it validated.

But that is what makes this so odd, it should have validated and been included in the quorum or marked as invalid. The only thing I can think of is that there was an outage, or you managed to find a hole in the system ... without access to the data and the validator there is no way we can know that the reality is ... worse, at this late date the returned data is gone, so all we can do is guess ...

and I agree. My guess is that the upload server ate one of your uploaded files after upload and before validate, but as Paul says that is only speculation.

To answer your original question, I don't think you did anything to provoke this, wahtever caused it it was unlucky it was your wu that got bitten. If you find it happening a lot then I might revise that answer.

Don't I remember hearing rumblings about LHC's over-eager deleter that did this exact same thing last year? It should have been fixed by the time of this WU, but it's identical behavior. Once the quorum was reached, the deleter was removing the quorum results. So the result in question would be an 'antique'--the exact kind of result that caused S@H some of their problems last summer...

Spot on. There was a fix to the deleter in August, but this problem wasn't addressed. The alpha project does have a deleter that fixes this problem, but its demands on the system are much greater. The last I heard, they were evaluating it to see if it could be rolled out on the live system. The alpha project also have SixTrack 4.71 (or maybe later now) that has a different screen saver.

or the filedeleter has been over-anxious again.
I have 4 results in pending for one host.
all results were returned well within the deadline, but are the last results to be returned.

I posted this a few weeks ago in a now dead thread on the same subject.

I have 31 results pending going back to July. It would be good if admin would look into this and grant credit.

3 or 4 other results for the same workunit have been granted credit, mine are still pending. I am sure there are other crunchers still in this situation.

Whilst the science is more important than the credit we receive, it is our payback for the time and money we invest crunching for the projects we work on, plus all these pendinfg results will be taking up space and time on the servers.

So, come on admin, theres been no work for weeks, grant us the credit we are owed and clear some space on the servers, before any new work becomes available.

Hello

Same problem here with :
http://lhcathome.cern.ch/workunit.php?wuid=659402
and :
http://lhcathome.cern.ch/workunit.php?wuid=541124

both wus exited with a success status, but credit has never been granted :( (ok, one should credit 0 :d)
This computer used to rank in the 5 best world rac per computer at lhc : i don't think the problem comes from it

Will i ever get my credit ?
