This year (2006) and Last Christmas (2005). Although the site is down for maintenance. There are some 18,000+ WU's sitting in the queue. Ready your wagon for the land rush. They're about to get out the bugles and start this machine up again.

Copied from server status...

Server Status

Up, 20620 workunits to crunch
no work in progress
32 concurrent connections

Should we be getting our hopes up?

Boinc still saying project is down though.

66240, but still no work being released.

Just a guess, but perhaps they are stock-piling the work before opening the flood gates.

I think you are right. With as many users as LHC has, they may not want to run out before we all get a chance to start crunching again.

88,830 and counting!

It will definitely be nice to get some LHC work going again. It will also be nice to read what the differences are between this run and the previous work. But, all in due time.

247110 to crunch

Go on... let us at them! We only want a few each to start with, and only a few of us have noticed the units appearing :)

Up, 265065 workunits to crunch

Maybe they wait for 1000000 workunits a nice big number :-)

This is a little like watching a volcano getting ready to explode.
As we see the ready to crunch numbers rise, it's like watching the dome inside the volcano creater rise. We know it will explode at some time but do not know when or how large it needs to get before it erupts.

Maybe they have a little script running to randomly increase the Workunits number on the website, and they are all sitting there in their office sniggering while they are watching us getting all hopeful and keyed up....

Not sure if I am running on cynicism or paranoia at the moment... comes from sitting staring at the screen with my hand hovering over the BOINC update button for too long.... more coffee!!!! lol

silly me. In Dec, I detached from the project so my 5 machines would not be constantly asking for non-existent work. now I cannot attach. will have to wait until eruption to attach.

just hope everyone does not take the all the work.

live and learn. :-(

Setting 'Now New Work' is a better strategy, it can be reversed at a stroke of a button and does not lose your host info, etc.

OK guys, lets run a little lottery. A mythical trillion credit note to the winner who correctly guesses at what number the WU's get released.

Standard rules apply ie not LHC employees may enter.

Why not? I knew as little about this as anyone else. ;-)
