Anyone know win xp's registry well?

Problem:
Einstein is using a different program now so it runs at the default 15%.
Is there anyway to get threadmaster to run all *.exe's in the Boinc folder at % that I set?
- and then have boinc.exe as an exemption.

thanks

Sorry there's no "easy" way to tell threadmaster the exe's... But nice idea...

Easiest way: when boinc dl's a new application,
-open regedit
-go to the threadmaster-path in regedit (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM, CurrentControlSet, Services, Threadmaster, Parameters, Applications)
-insert new application and give it percentage.

If the application is already started (e.g. when only running 1 project), threadmaster don't recognize the new value in regestry, so simply close and restart BOINC once, and it works.

One hint: Set boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe only to 5%! I've had a weird error where boinc.exe hung in a loop repeating an error msg for thousands of times, filling up my HD and also using up all of my CPU... Had a hard time killing boinc, PC needed about 5 Minutes to give me the TaskMgr.

Another hint: When you're away, simply set BOINC to NO NETWORK ACCESS, and only turn on network access when you're at your PC, if you DL'ed enough work your PC shouldn't have any problems crunching 24/7 (my PC does ^.^)

Hope that helps a bit,

Oh, a third hint: For WCG, the name of the .exe is
NOT rosetta_4.22_windows_intelx86.exe,
it's rosetta_4.22_windows_intelx86 ! Without the .exe!

Anybody got a good "exceptions" list for WinXPPro SP2?

One that is stripped down for a cruncher only machine would be the icing on the cake but I can create this from a more normal one easily enough.

- da shu @ HeliOS,
"Free software” is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of “free” as in “free speech”, not as in “free beer".

Eh... Here's what I am running with right now. This is on a headless cruncher that basically runs MBM, RealVNC and BOINC (all as services, so it's usually logged off). This machine has sound turned off, uses onboard video / lan and has as many services set to manual or disabled as possible.

I deleted all the default exeptions from the install after looking up each one that I didn't recognize (left a couple that I wasn't sure about) and then re-built my own thrdmstr_exceptions.reg file. I'll add to it as needed. This is it:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\ThreadMaster\\Parameters\\Exceptions]
"boinc.exe"=""
"cmd.exe"=""
"csrss.exe"=""
"Display.dll"=""
"explorer.exe"=""
"llssrv.exe"=""
"lsass.exe"=""
"MBM5.exe"=""
"mbmsvc.exe"=""
"mmc.exe"=""
"services.exe"=""
"smss.exe"=""
"svchost.exe"=""
"System"=""
"SystemProcess"=""
"termsrv.exe"=""
"winlogon.exe"=""
"winmgmt.exe"=""
"winvnc4.exe"=""

Just a thought,
Don't forget firewall / (maybe)anti-virus.
There are free ones on net.
