When will we get new work? Why is at LHC Alpha so much work available but Account creation is disabled?
I need work from LHC! Please! ;-)

LHC Alpha is just that, ALPHA testing.

There is so much work because we are limited to 50 results per day, most of which are short run failures and there are only about 20 current working alpha testers. The work is for testing the whole download, process, upload and validation routine. We do get credit but also there can be lots of crashes and no credit. We do not participate in ALPHA for credit but for the experience of helping deliver (hopefully) a bug free product to the public users. The work being done is to test new web code, new applications, new validators, new screensavers, etc, hopefully to get rid of any bugs before the code is posted to the public board giving the public users a pleasant experience. Currently there is a new screensaver being tested, hopefully to eliminate previous crashes. We are on Sixtrack 4.71 where as you are still on 4.67. When it is felt that the bugs have been removed it or another version will be released.

Happy Holidays to all.

At 11:50 UTC you asked

When will we get new work?

and at 14:04 UTC the same day this was posted on the home page:

A study of over 600'000 jobs have been finished and will be discussed tomorrow. Next week we will let you know what is planned for christmas and the future.

reply? or co-incidence? Either way it is great the way the project team keep us posted on the ups and downs of work availability.

So, what I want to know is whether the delay is caused by the scientists designing the gift-wrap for our Christmas WU? ;-)

...Why is at LHC Alpha so much work available but Account creation is disabled?...

you don't want to have lots of people on an alpha project. On Orbit it is _really_ frustrating being one of 1000 testers and seeing WU come out in batches of a dozen.

No work, no fun...

It's an optical illusion. There is only a couple of workunits on alpha from about 3 to 5 runs ago...there are just 100,000 copies of each.

No work, no fun...

Work is promised ...

Though, I hope they are referring to the main study we did, not the last 600K that we blew through in just a few days ...
