Hello everyone, I just installed and run BOINC a day ago and started contributing to the LHC@Home project. I don;t know how things work yet, but I was trying to figure out. I've got this little problem:

11/5/2005 1:55:46 PM||Starting BOINC client version 5.2.6 for windows_intelx86
11/5/2005 1:55:46 PM||libcurl/7.14.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8 zlib/1.2.3
11/5/2005 1:55:46 PM||Data directory: C:\\Program Files\\BOINC
11/5/2005 1:55:46 PM||Processor: 1 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Mobile CPU 1.70GHz
11/5/2005 1:55:46 PM||Memory: 511.43 MB physical, 1.22 GB virtual
11/5/2005 1:55:46 PM||Disk: 27.94 GB total, 8.49 GB free
11/5/2005 1:55:46 PM|LHC@home|Computer ID: 71085; location: home; project prefs: default
11/5/2005 1:55:46 PM||General prefs: from LHC@home (last modified 2005-11-04 22:28:15)
11/5/2005 1:55:46 PM||General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults
11/5/2005 1:55:46 PM||Remote control not allowed; using loopback address

Now the status says "Downloading" but nothing happens. How can I fix it?

Thanks a lot for the help.

You have your computers hidden (a setting in your preferences on the website) so it is difficult for anyone to offer advice or give you help since we can't see what is going on.

If downloading is stuck, go to the "Transfers" tab in BOINC Manager and select the stuck transfer that you should be able to see there and then hit "Retry Now".

Cheers,
Gary.

Are you on dialup?

No, I'm on cable. I run a Mobile Pentium 4 1.7Ghz with 512MB ram.

My problem remains. There are no messages/lines under the "Transfers" tab.

Here are my most recent "Messages:"

11/16/2005 10:52:44 PM||Starting BOINC client version 5.2.6 for windows_intelx86
11/16/2005 10:52:44 PM||libcurl/7.14.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8 zlib/1.2.3

11/16/2005 10:52:44 PM||Disk: 27.94 GB total, 8.76 GB free
11/16/2005 10:52:44 PM|LHC@home|Computer ID: 71085; location: home; project prefs: default

11/16/2005 10:52:44 PM||Using earliest-deadline-first scheduling because computer is overcommitted.

Now, under the "Work" tab it says Dowloading. But nothing really happens. Again, I'm on a cable connection, it used to download in the blink of an eye. I don't think it's doing anything at the moment.

So, I'm desperate. :(

I even tried to uninstall the prgram and delete all the related files and then reinstall it but suprisingly nothing changed. Weird.

I'm considering totally giving up the idea and get rid of everything for good.

Please help.

Hi Hasan,

Are you running firewall software? or is your computer connected through a firewalled router or something? It could just be the settings of your firewall - you may need to allow Boinc access to the internet.

Just a thought.

@Hasan, I think I need more information about what you're seeing. There are many possiblilities. It's possible that you've suspended the project and forgot about it. Check the "projects" tab, then highlight the project "lhcathome" by clicking on it, it should turn blue. Then look in the status column, does it say suspended by user?, does it say "no new work", does it say nothing, does it say "deferred communictions"? The buttons on the left should say "Update", "Suspend", "no new work", "reset project", and "Detach", is that what your seeing?

The log you posted is the standard start up messages, can you post messages that are farther down the list?

Lets see. Nothing on the transfers tab, and work downloading. With 5.2.6, I believe that it is likely that you have disabled the network access for BOINC somehow.

Check your network usage schedule on this web site - your account.

Check that you have not disabled web access through the GUI.

Try always allowing network access in your account on this web site.

Well for the moment it could also be because there is no work on the server.
