During the recent problem with corrupted data here on LHC@Home and apparently now that the problem has been solved, I continue to show two computer identities. Identity 67730 is now showing correct CPU, Operating System, etc. Identity 66865 is showing bogus info (zero CPU's, etc). Both computers show "Name" as ahartley which is correct. However, when I try to merge them, the merge host page lists neither computer. I had the same multiple identity problem on SETI@Home but had no problem merging hosts. Oddly enough, the computer showing zero CPU's (66865) is accumulating the lions share of credits. I've checked my host location for both identities and they have stabilize with "Home" now that the corruption problem has passed. I've also done several updates via BOINC. I'm running BOINC 4.45 and sixtrack 4.67. The hardware computer is running MS XP Pro SP2 on an AMD Athlon 64 CPU. I'd appreciate some guidance on what my next move should be. |

I think I found the answer to my question. Apparently you can not merge computer identities that show different operating systems. Even if the operating system is bogus. All it would let me do was delete the bogus identity altogether. Unfortunately this had the effect of throwing off my statistics. User stats and host stats now show different totals and averages. |

In order to avoid cheating the credit system (by downloading work to a slow host that is then executed on a fast one, for example) the BOINC server tracks various pieces of system specific information. Processor ID, Operating System, etc., are recorded and compared on a regular basis with actual data from the machine. If you have a fleet of computers all identical you could merge them, but small differences will prevent a merge from takin place. OS is a case in point. For example, if you detach, install XP Sp2 and then re-attach you will receive a new host ID which cannot be merged with the previous one. Deleting an old host is a solution. If you're concerned about credit and stats it might bother you, so leave the old host alone... Gaspode the UnDressed http://www.littlevale.co.uk |
