Yes, the SETI search is within a very narrow band, and for good reason. We cannot look for signals of a wavelength longer than 1cm, because these signals are absorbed by the atmosphere. Signals longer than 30cm will earn us nothing but noise from background radiation.
I understand the technicalities of the search process. It's the assumptions that defeat me. We are talking alien life here. There will probably be no commonality of thought process. Our one-sided science hasn't hit on the issues that affect our alien friends. Their equally one-sided science can't conceive of the assumptions we're making. We're far more likely to find life on Mars than we are to find signals in the radio spectrum.
Too late, already found life on Mars, well, on rocks from mars, same thing ...
Yes - I saw that report. I also saw the report a few weeks later demonstrating that the structures observed could be form by purely chemical and physical means - no life need be involved... I've got some new workunits named "wboinc7rpt_v6s4hvnom_0__1__64.254_59.264__8_10__6__80_1_sixvf_boinc86275". I wonder what are these rpt ones - repeated WUs with adjusted params? this game has no name |
