I've been wondering when/if there would ever be a search function for the forums. Today I noticed there is one in the forums main page. Is it newly added or has it been there a while? Edit: I see it's a google search limited to site:lhcathome.cern.ch .. I've used this method before with limited success at google.com.. |

Yeah, and I am looking to see if I can make this type of search available for the Wiki too ... The Wiki search is currently based on MySQL's full text search which is known weak, but they have not written their own yet. I did a test yesterday and it seems to work. So, one more thing for me to work on ... {edit} Interesting, can't insert the link ... http://www.google.com/search?domains=http%3A%2F%2Fboinc-doc.net%2Fboinc-wiki%2F&sitesearch=http%3A%2F%2Fboinc-doc.net%2Fboinc-wiki%2F&q="canonical result" |

Theres always been a search function. It was just not as prominate as the new search. It use to say do a <a>keyword[/url] search. Go to the questions/problems page and you will see the old way or click the link. It use to be the same on this forum too. That search has a search title or search messages. I also seem to remember it did not find any words less than 4 letters and many common words where omitted. Not sure if all the projects have the same set of words ommitted. Also on some of the projects it does not work unless you click on the search button. If you entered a word or words and pressed enter it gave you no results. I tried to find this thread with no luck so I don't know how quickly it updates as of this writing the thread was started about three days ago, but I did find many other threads on this forum with the word google in them. You can find this thread using the old search and the word google. Everyone should note that all your postings can be found by search engines now. If not immediately they will eventually show up, And more people, anyone with internet access, not just those that use this particular forum can find and read what you wrote. |
