wjun4B_v6s4hhpac_mqx__9__64.2914_59.3077__6_8__6__10_1_sixvf_boinc12302_1 is the unit I am currently processing.
What does the unit name signify? (this question could have been asked before, but I haven't found it in the forum. sorry if its a repeat)

Thanks in advance.

The question has been asked before, but although Chrulle joined the thread, he didn't actually answer it.

I'd guess that the V6S4 relates to the version of the machine under study - currently 6.4. As each new batch of components is delivered and tested the actual measured parameters are plugged in to sixtrack and the studies repeated. This gives data for the next phase of construction. V6.5 of the machine should be released soon. The 64. may relate to this as well.

One item relates to the amplitude of the signal. I can't say which it is in this name format. High amplitudes tend to finish early.

The last digit is the issue number of the WU. Each result issued for a WU increments the number.

Beyond that, I have no idea!

The amplitude is the number after the 's', in this case 4. If I remember correctly 4 to 8 is considered normal and what the time estimates are based on.

Unfortunately that is all I know about the naming conventions here.

I asked the Sixtrack computing guru (Eric McIntosh) to answer your question and here is his reply:
______________________

A reasonable question...

The above line can be decoded as:

wjun4B A workspace directory name
v6s4hhpac_mqx The study name where:
v6 LHC Version 6 Subversion 4
hhpac_mqx Just a name for the particular physics case
9 The current seed number (typically between 1 and 60)
representing a set of magnet errors
64.2914_59.3077 The tunes x and y (the current topic of investigation)
6_8 The initial amplitude range of the tracked particles
6 The order of the the number of turns 1000000
10 The initial angle in phase space (between 0 and 90 degrees)

1_sixvf_boinc12302_1 is just some string for boinc

Hope that helps. Eric.

Great information to one of the more constant puzzles of crunching for LHC. Thanks, Ben and Eric!

And he made me look! :)

Well, I made sure we had both the data from SETI@Home, and now LHC@Home ...

Sorry for the late reply; work interferes with my life too much (lol). Thankyou all for your replies and detective work - now it all makes sense.
