Intel today, confirmed that they are recalling a batch of it's top of the line Pentium 4 CPU's. Read here...

(disclaimer) I may repost this on a couple message boards since I think that it's very important and not everyone checks every board!

When I see it on CNN or intel.com, then I'll believe it. Posting on the inquirer site isn't reliable enough for me...

Ditto. Even The Inquirer story says it is a heatsink problem and a very small number at that. A non-story.

Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream.

When it is really a heatsink problem, why do they want the processor back?

A call to intel tech support confirmed it today, there has been a recall on P4 expensive edition processors sent to distributors in july.

Don't believe me? Call them yourself. Make sure you speak to a manager first because some of the people who don't speak english don't know about it.

Back in May, Toms Hardware had similar thermal problems with a boxed cpu cooler for the Pentium-D they were testing. Luckily Intel anticiapted this problem by including a second cooler with a larger copper core & more fins in the kit they sent Tom's Hardware. Intel is very well aware their CPUs run way too hot without adequate cooling. Maybe they'll live up to their recent headlines about cutting thermal waste down by 50% in future products. :)
