Since yesterday night 2 computers (WinXP SP2, Boinc 4.45 and 4.43) don't connect to the internet.

No upload is possible, no download, no update.
Only LHC is running. CPDN, Einstein and Seti are suspended. But at CPDN etc. there is also no update possible.
My router shows, that the computer (Boinc) does not try to connect to the internet.
Firewall is o.k.
The 3. computer is o.k.

What can this be? Any help is welcome.

Your router shows that your computer doesn't try to the internet, or does it show that only Boinc doesn't want to communicate? Can you connect to the internet from any of those two computers, when you either open up a browser or try to ping somewhere through the command line interface?

My router shows, that boinc doesn't want to communicate.
The internet-connection of the 2 computers is o.k. (Browser, ping, mail-program etc.).

Yes.

Addendum:
If I select "File / select computer..." I can show the Boinc-work on the other computer, this connection is o.k. It seems, that boinc only refuse the connection to LHC, CPDN etc.
[edit/] It is also not possible to "Attach to new projekt". [/edit]

I am confused.
And 20 WUs wait for upload...

Can you open up ports in the router?
If you can, try opening up TCP port 1043 and/or TCP 31416 towards either of the PCs.

Have you checked for changes in the XP software firewalls?

Don't do that. 1043/31416 are the new/old GUI RPC ports. This
would allow evryone on the internet to modify your local BOINC
installation. OK, I admit, chances are small, because they need your
IP address and you have to start BOINC with -allow_remote_gui_rpc,
but nethertheless..

BTW: Sorry, no idea what causes your problem :(

Hmmm, if I remember correctly, port 80 (http) needs to be open. But you
obviously can post here....

First, thanks for your help and excuse my bad english.
Outgoing ports on the router are open (the 3. Boinc-computer on the router works fine). I have also connected one "bad" computer to another router - with no better result.
There was no change in the XP firewall, there was no autimatical Windows-update since the last correct upload of crunched WUs. I have also deactivated the firewall - with no better result.

Now, on one computer I have made a backup on Boinc, then deinstalled and removed the whole Boinc-directory. Then I installed Boinc again and attached LHC. And it works fine. But all WUs waiting (in the backup) are lost, also 205 hours of CPDN.
I think, there must be a failure in client_state.xml ore another file. But I don't know where and how I can correct it. And it is mysterious, that the same failure occurs and the same time on 2 computers and the 3. computer is o.k.
Is there any chance to salvage the crunched WUs, so that I can upload them?

One possible way can be, that you restore the Boinc folder (keep the back up), then un- and reinstall the Boinc program, this will keep all the WUs, and maybe correct the failure.

Yes, you don't have to remove the BOINC folder to reinstall. It'll only reinstall to the same directory with a new and fresh version of BOINC. So take the saved folders and copy them back to place and try again. If the problem is still there, reinstall BOINC without moving anything.

It's worth a try! :-)

Thank you, Fuzzy and horvathd. Before I removed the BOINC folder I have tried that, what you write. But the result was bad. The reason may be, that a new installed BOINC use the old client_state.xml and other files.
So I purged the root-directory of BOINC, but not the directorys projects and slots. Then BOINC knew, that projects are attached and downloaded some WUs [edit/] and gave me a new computer-ID [/edit], but BOINC had forgotten, that there are WUs, waiting for upload.
It is really difficult...

Yes, ouch, it hurts to lose so much work. I don't have any other suggestions for you, except that the wrong thing was to de- and reattach, as that will create a new client, and the WU's are connected to the old client number. Did you try to merge the clients?

I have not deattached. I have made a backup and then deinstalled boinc, then purged the directory, then installed boinc new, then attached LHC. Now I have 2 computer-IDs for the same computer. And if I have a great idea (how I can upload the old WUs), then I can restore the backup. And that's the reason, that I have not merged the clients up to now.
Today I feel like Schrödingers cat !

By backup you mean, you made a zip file of the whole directory? Or just a copy to another directory?

I think where you went wrong was by deleting the Boinc directory's contents. You deleted the client_state.xml file as well. So when you reinstalled Boinc, you had to re-attach to this project?

Why the deleting of anything, by the way? usually uninstalling and reinstalling is enough. If you want to clear your registry, rebooting inbetween uninstalling and reinstalling will do the trick.

What you can try is a rollback to the previous version of your Boinc folder, or put the backup back and uninstall Boinc, reboot, reinstall new one, then see what it does. But if you didn't backup the whole of the Boinc folder, it won't work either.

Btw, all units you have gotten now with the new install of Boinc will be lost if you follow the above advice.

*usually* uninstalling and reinstalling is enough, yes, but in this matter it did not help.

I've tried it several times, it was not o.k.
