I respect the fact that you want a Mac app, and agree that if possible they should have one, if they so desire.

I DO NOT approve of the way you stated your case. You have come across to me as insulting and arrogant. If I were in a position to grant your request, I would not do it due to your presentation.

Please have some courtesy on these boards.

Jim

MacStef - had you bothered to read the forums rather than loosing off a stream of abuse you'd know why there is no open source available, and by implication why there is no Apple version. In the light of your posting, maybe this is a good thing.

project:
The only compiler we have found to give results we can rely on, is the Lahey Fortran compiler. This compiler cannot compile for the Mac platform. Now that we have a new math library we are looking at moving to Gnu compilers, and if this works we might possibly offer a mac version.

Personal:
I have alway preffered Wintel (or better: LinAMD) over Mac for four simple reasons in no particular order:
Speed, easier to customize, more software, price.

For these reason i have never even considered buying a Mac, until now. I really like OS X, and the immediate sleep mode of mac laptops and the usabillity and design is light years ahead of windows. But with my student income i did not think these features where worth the price and performance hit.

Like most Apple users you don't understand anything. OSX is based on UNIX, which makes it closer to Linux than Windows.

I bet your Apple could run Bonc in an emulator...

I ran knoppix in an emulator window once... it was 20% efficient.

You know you really want to see the screensaver.

:)

I'm not the LHC Alex. Just a number cruncher like everyone else here.

Congratulations! your e-penis just grew an extra 2 inches. we're all impressed and humbled by your amazing tutelage powers. one question though, do you build systems that filter out all the crap that you like to spew over the internet? if you do, please ship one out to all of us ASAP.

Ok, let us stop this before it turns into a flame war.

And since we are all showing the size of our system architecture E-...Knowledge.

I have created my own Turing complete 5-step pipelined processor using a subset of the MIPS32 specification (I believe MIPS is also used in the playstation), it was integer only. I have also created a compiler that could create machine code for this processor. I have made my own pre-emptive kernel (the most important part of an OS) for an Alpha 21164 processor using C and ASM.

Furthermore i have done an advanced course on modern processor design covering subjects like the P4 trace cache(this is what allows the p4 to do Hyper-threading).

My favourite processors are the Itanium and the Pentium M.
The itanium has, in my opinion, the most potential of any of the modern architectures. The problem is just that it requires much better compilers, which unfortunately have not appeared. :-(

Hehe, thats just cos you've seen me sleeping my powerbook all the time Chrulle! :)
I work down the corridor from all (he he) the LHC@home folks, and am a mac user, so be assured that even if they weren't already prepared to make an OSX version when it becomes feasable, i would poke them with a stick until they did. :D
