I'm definately happy to have joined LHC@Home. While I started DC w/ SETI, I am very interested in physics. I have been watching the news on BOINC synergy for a month now to see if you guys would open up. Thanks for doing so. Checked every day for months now - EXCEPT yesterday!!! But got in now thankfully. Surprised that I'm only Acc No. 6762. Glad to be here, only hope is that my steam driven comp can do some decent crunching for LHC.   It's not the speed, but the quality - Until I get a faster computer. |

Yeah, me 2 joined yesterday. Think this is one, if not THE coolest projects in BOINC. Most attractive part of this project is that we "maybe" can see the real result of this testing in a few years. (SETI is fun but I think if they wanted us the pick up their signals, they would have gave us a chance to do so already...that is, IF there is "something" out there ;) )

Yeah I been checking for months then suddenly BANG! its open. Thanks for the welcome all. Am looking forward to making a contribution; cant have them protons flying too far off beam or......big repair job at the very least! I actually think the work is far more interesting than SETI if I am honest so getting 8000 should be easily done. All the experimients at CERN look intriguing.....  |

You are assuming that the "something" out there is aware of our presence and is intentionally trying to avoid us. One of the things SETI is looking for is a signal similar to what our earth has been broadcasting for the past 50 years. Signals from TV and radio, and other forms of communication that have propogated away as an unintended consequence of our broadcasts. Actually, aren't our calculations being put to use right now? Aren't the physicists using our numbers to help design the collider? If they are then the results are being used almost immediately. We may not see the physical manifistation of our work right away, but the design phase is being forwarded by our efforts. There is no doubt that the search will expand. The first place to look is at a "logical" part of the spectrum. So, that is where they started. The next thing is to expand the part of the sky scanned. Which is in the works, though no schedule has been published. Once we are happily doing THAT ... then other parts of the spectrum can be added as we get the capability. So, we start with what we can do... then we move on to new things as our technology improves. For example, if gravity waves are used and we have sufficiently sensitive tools to record those, well, it will show up as contamination of the Einstein@Home expiriment ... :) |

My totals don't reflect my interests either. SETI@Home has a high count because I have a long history there. Predictor@Home had a low spot when I had moved to version 4 client and they still had to stay with the version 3 clients. Einstein@Home came later as did LHC@Home ... and LHC@Home keeps turning off the work (annoying me to no end). If my even shares were perfectly rendered, I would have the same values for each project ... ah well ... |

I CAN imagine my sig can distract ... but that's just my BOINCing girl, don't blame her ;) Think you all need to loosen up and add something extra to your sig besides only boinc-stats. It can maybe give some extra postings in the "cafe"-forum :D
