Just joined LHC. Put LHC on 2 Win XP boxes and both completed their first units in a few CPU minutes. Are the first test? or benchmark? Bad Units? Bad PCs lol? Any ideas welcome facts especially welcome.

Thanks

Noticed the same thing here, too !

Started crunching a WU immediately without any benchmark test being run !

Hmmmm seems odd but now another user has reported on the one of my WUs and also completed in a few minutes. Dodgy WU I guess. The WUs I am now processing seem to be OK with 17/18 minutes CPU used and projected 6 or 7 hours to completion. OK seems normal now.....

LHC@Home WU are "unstable" in many cases and when that happens... the WU completes before the "scheduled" time ...

These are simulations of a particle beam and when the "beam" gets unstable, well, a hole in the wall is the least of the worries. So, we are doing the simulations here before they start live ...

The short run times are LHC@Home's equivelent of a -9 work unit in SETI@Home...

Hmmm.

So far since joining just a couple of hours ago, my machine has
downloaded two WUs.

The first WU ran for 32m37s then my Boinc switched to an Einstein WU.
1st WU now paused showing 21.77% completed and 1h 57m 16s to completion.

Second WU (not started yet) is showing 13h 6m 9s to completion.

By the way - I' using a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz running under Windows XP Home.....

Ah. Well, I seem to be attracting bad WU's in both, then!

'Least I'm finally on LHC to ghet bad WU's, though!

Yeah, my 2cts exactly. So why did they sudden opened account-creation again? Last week they said in the news-page they will not NEED new users?!?!?! Or where they amazed on how fast the accounts went when Message@home went open and wanted to know if theirs is also that "wanted"? LOL

Also, keep in mind that there are 3 different run times ... 10,000 turns, 100,000 turns, and 1,000,000 turns ...

The top take my computers about 10 hours to run to completion. The 10K turns take less than an hour, like 15 minutes ... obviously the 100K are in the middle there ... unless, of course, the beam runs into the walls ... I guess I need to start an LHC FAQ too ...

My first WU for LHC crashes with a Computation error. My first WU for Messsage@home crashes yesterday with a Computation error. My first WU for Sztaki (bis) crashes also. Strange isn't it?
Every projects are running fine after this.

Use Block images from this server. If you're using Firefox or Mozilla, that is. It'll immediately kill it in all other forums as well. ;)

I said Firefox OR Mozilla. There's a finelined difference. ;)
But whatever your poison. As long as you don't start spoofing us with emails containing Netsky, it's fine with me.

No I didn't. I got his neck joke. Bar advising him to get a bigger monitor on his Nokia/Ericson/Samsung with UMTS, it may be time to go past the forum preferences and show images as links.
