The status of the project on the front page of the site states that there is no work available, but both my boxes have been getting work over the last couple of days... Only one or two WUs at a time, but work none the less... Just wondered what's happening here...

Two things are going on here:

1) The status is is cached, and updated every few minutes so that the database doesn't have to be queried every time someone visits the home page. If a few WUs pass deadline and are re-issued then they'll become available and be downloaded. Unless the timing is spot on the WUs will all be gone before the status is updated.

2) CERN have reworked their scheduler and job submission scripts recently. It seem that the status hasn't been linked to the new software yet, so it always display 'Out of work' even when there is some.

The actual problem is that we anticipate that the server will run out of work. Therefore we write no work on the main page, even though we have a few hundred WU left.

If we did not do this it might happen that the home page stated that there was a number of WU left, but everybody would get a "no work from project" scheduler reply. This would probably get a bigger public cry-out than the way we use now. :-)
