I have a problem with the screensaver. It has trouble starting for LHC@home. It goes to a blank screen with the BOINC symbol "B". That gets stuck in one place. Then when I move the mouse it goes to the the regular desktop but the cursor is gone and nothing works. Then I have to reboot my computer.

Just a note to let you know that I am having the same problem on my windows98 system. The screensaver either goes directly to a blank screen or shows the graphic but goes to blank before the 5 second loading countdown finishes. The system does not lock up though when an action canceling the screensaver occurs.

I have similar problem on one computer. The "B" symbol and the 5 second count down recycle through the period of time when screensaver should go to blank screen. The 5 second count down doesn't progress from 5 second at all and the "B" comes up again and everything is repeated. If I move the mouse to come back to normal desktop it takes a lond time to repsond but eventually everything comes back to normal situation.

The show graphics works OK. I have reported the same type behaviour also last year before LHC@home took a pause. So new versions of Boinc and LHC hasn't corrected this.

One of my computers that normally shows the screensaver stopped when I was running something that used a fair chunk of the CPU. I think there is a problem with the performace test. It seems to go to never never land if the computer is not up to running the full graphics package rather than showing a less complicated graphic.

This explanation could fit my problem as the computer giving problem is the slowest one I'm using for LHC, it's only 1 GHz PIII (Win2000). But display adapter is ATI Radeon 9800 Pro which should be quite good for OpenGL. I have similar adapter on P4 3.0 GHz (WinXP) and it is working without any problems.
I probably have to check for newer drivers.

The problem is in the screen saver activation as clicking show graphics from the work tab works perfectly. After upgrading to Boinc V4.25, the Boinc loading screensaver box appears and the the screen goes blank and every 30 seconds the "Measuring system performance 5 seconds remaining" blinks on the screen. I have an ati 7200 radeon and have varied all of the OpenGl settings and no combination of settings seem to be able help. Note: all of the other projects screensavers RUN perfectly, only the LHC saver is failing.

Good news,

I got my Sixtrack screen saver to work by updating the drivers to the latest ones from ATI's web pages.

Update: Sixtrac V4.66 on windows 98 with ATI Radeon 7200 graphics. The drivers were updated while LHC was down. I am able to show graphics from the work tab, but the screen saver still fails to start. The screen is blank with the "measuring system performance" line appearing briefly every 5 seconds.

I updated the Boinc software to version 4.25 and Sixtrack to version 4.67. The result for the screen saver test was bad. The system with WinXP Pro, P4 3.0 + ATI 9800 Pro can not anymore show screensaver, this used to work with versions 4.19 + 4.64. Now only very short display (less than second long) of "measuring system performance" but no graphics. The display graphics option works fine though.

I have to check with my other systems at the office how they are behaving.
