I've waited till I finished yesterdays WU on this puter. Then installed V4.23 (up from 4.19, down from 4.22), no errors yet, except I'm still hitting the Quota wall on LHC, and don't have LHC work. It kept all my old WU though.

"Disclaimer" the 4.2x clients are Developmental (alpha) clients and you shouldn't run them unless you're willing to risk hardware and OS failures. Stay with the current general release 4.19 if you're one of the faint of heart.

Hi Tony,
Do you know what is new in 4.23?

You can get it from here.
Click on the "Developmental versions" at the bottom of the page.

Please read all disclaimers on that page, and my earlier disclaimer. I don't want anyone complaining that their computer fried or are getting the Checksum errors on LHC.

thanks

tony

[edit] Rocky, I don't see any difference. I was hoping for improved functions or appearances[edit]

Ya'll should find BOINCnotifier. With a click it'll tell you what the current production release is and what the dev releases are.

Be sure you first uninstall the earlier version. Somewhere at S@H I read you can not install it over an existing Boinc version like 4.19.

Rom Walton has been bug fixing BOINC since version 4.20 for public release (they hoppe in March). In principle there won't be new features, it's mainly bug hunt. BOINC 4.2x works different from BOINC 4.1x, and the installer is new, so going from 4.1x to 4.2x, it's necessary to uninstall 4.1x first.

I'm sticking with 4.19 until 4.2x shows up on the stable list. If I miss out on some LHC WU's, so be it.

In fact I have yet to get a working workunit on a 4.2x client. So the people using the development client so far are missing out and ones using the public one are getting all the work.

Well, the signatures seem to work. I've got work on two Winxp machines that run boinc 4.23.

Yippeeeee

How Tony? Did you attach, let the downloads fail, then reset?

This is the way I did it. When I noticed that I was getting the checksum errors again, I simply reset the project. Yes, I know that causes problems, the problems were going to be there regardless.

After resetting I was able to get the new science application (i forget the version number, sorry). I am still in the process of downloading the files, but so far it looks like all is well. I'll give an update later if I don't forget. Remind me if I forget.

I'm going to write something that is a bit off-topic, but...
Did anyone else notice, that after reattaching to project the computers are "doubled" and need to be merged?

I have one machine running XP Home that seems to be crunching workunits OK using VOINC 4.23. However I have three XP Pro machines that can't get a WU. A typical error is "signature verification error for bottomOverlay_1.02.tga". This was after a reset. The reset BTW crashed the BOINC service on one machine.

Obviously (I hope) that was BOINC 4.23, not VOINC.
