Good Morning All, I must say for the second day in a row I have reached my "Daily Quota" relatively fast. I have had 1 WU out of 20 that has taken more than 4 hours, some have taken a little less than an hour, but the majority have taken less than 10 minutes. I use a AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1800+ with Windows XP Home SP2. I was just curious if this is just something to expect or it is a "testing" procedure to see how the new server is going to handle the load. Thank You LHC for all your hard work, glad to have you back! Very Sincerely, Rocky <img src="http://boincwapstats.sourceforge.net/summary.php?name=ML%20Cudd&team=US%20Navy&seti=123863&einstein=4173&lhc=1091&climate=2545&predictor=7916&style=6&ctx=yellow"> WinXP SP2 Boinc - 4.44 Have A Great Day! |

Resource share is the key......and I see that you are! |

Hi Gas Giant, I guess I am still unsure of the Resource share concept completely. I had LHC running on all three of my boxes, however I stopped running it on all three, and dedicated 2 projects per box. My AMD Athlon always seemed to be the fastest to crunch any WU before, and someone has stated that that was because of the L2 Cache. I wish I had had a little more knowledge before I bought my 3rd box, I screwed up and bought a celeron processor instead of a Pent IV, or an Athlon. I guess we learn from our mistakes. My next project is to save up the money to convert my new celeron box to a Pent IV or Athlon 3000 Motherboard, but this will be a while. Now if I could only get some more LHC Wu's I would be a happy camper! Happy Crunching my friend! The answer for the different crunching times of a WU can be find here. Look to point 2.2 but also to point 2.3. From What is LHC@Home: Typically SixTrack simulates 60 particles at a time as they travel around the ring, and runs the simulation for 100000 loops around the ring. That may sound like a lot, but it is less than 10s in the real world. Still, it is enough to test whether the beam is going to remain on a stable orbit for a much longer time, or risks losing control and flying off course into the walls of the vacuum tube - a very serious problem that could result in the machine being stopped for repairs if it happens in real life. By repeating such calculations thousands of times, it is possible to map out the conditions under which the beam should be stable. Best greetings from Belgium Thierry |

Thank You Thierry, I completely missed that. I appreciate the help. if some wu's completed in a couple of minutes, I wouldn't worry, but I have had wu's that complete in 7 secs. ?!? isn't that a bit too fast ?? btw ; glad that LHC is back ... |

And those "fast" WU's are important for science, don't abort them!!! greetz from Switzerland littleBouncer |
