Hmm, after 3 hours crunching there is no work because of "daily quota"...
Is this really neccessary? There are >5000 WUs ready but my PC can't do anything.

We had to restrict daily quota temporarily to balance the server load so that one host doesn't download too many results on the first connect.

Currently the limit is 10 WUs per host.

We will increase the quota back to normal after the server load gets reasonable.

I have a different question, but still partaining to the Daily Quota.

When does the Daily Quota timer reset? Does each individual have to wait 24 hours? or does it rest everyones daily quota at a specific time?

I would also like this quota issue to be resolved, I've been looking forward to restart of LHC@home since xmas .... , now I've given it 75% of cpu time .... but after a few hours no work , cause of daily quota.

My question : now you say limit is 10 WU , what is the normal-status limit ?

daily quota - OK,, but quota!

I write about this here

From my conections in 09:33h UTC + 2 I "finish" 6 WU to 13:48h UTC + 2
v64lhc96-15s14_16545_1_sixvf_438_1 08 min 35 sec
v64lhc96-16s10_12530_1_sixvf_457_1 48 min 22 sec
v64lhc96-16s14_16575_1_sixvf_470_1 11 min 26 sec
v64lhc96-16s16_18575_1_sixvf_475_2 00 min 00 sec
v64lhc96-17s16_18560_1_sixvf_504_2 00 min 00 sec
v64lhc96-17s18_20530_1_sixvf_507_1 00 min 00 sec

After update, server return "LHC@home - Message from server: No work available (daily quota exceeded)"
I set LHC 35% from resources for 2 day... bit onli for today I want 25 - 30 WU?

Add only 16:25 UTC+2:

v64lhc96-17s14_16560_1_sixvf_499_2 12 min 24 sec
v64lhc96-17s16_18545_1_sixvf_503_0 00 min 50 sec

8 WU from 10 for 1 h 21 min 37 sec or daily quota is 5.660% from client time?
If next 2 WU realy work 01:04:27 ( it' not posibily ) I can set LHC to max 14% from resource?

To Markku Degerholm
>>"...We had to restrict daily quota temporarily to balance the server load..."

If I dont work I test every hours server for WU ... and less realy!
Update... Update... Update... Update... Update...

17:18 h Add
============
v64lhc96-18s10_12545_1_sixvf_518_0 48 min 05 sec
v64lhc96-18s16_18545_1_sixvf_533_1 01 min 51 sec

That sounds reasonable. It makes it possible for all to at least sample LHC and you can see LHC crunched on a wide variety of computers. After attaching and reattaching (resetting did not work) I finally crunched some units.>

Yup, my fastest puter is now hitting the "Quota". I hope they reset the Quota soon. It does seem a waste of possible CPU cycles. I understand the reason for it and I hope that reason become Moot soon. Very Soon.

I wanna crunch.

If you share with other projects, you shouldn't be hitting upon the daily quota. I am sharing a total of 5 projects and haven't hit upon the daily quota for LHC yet.

is the daily quota per person (user) or per machine?

It's per host, Jim.

See Markku's post earlier in this thread. Host = machine.

I'm crunching all projects (except CPDN), equal share, and I'm restricted by the quota. This machine ain't that fast, Athlon XP 2200+.

Try setting up a different preference for LHC, outside the share options for the default one you are running all projects on, then lower the amount of days LHC should contact the server to something like 0.5 days.

It doesn't matter if you set contact the server ever 3 days anyway, you will only get the maximum of 10 units. And then the other 2 days you'll get nothing.

I've got CPDN & Pirates set at my default preferences, running time an hour, contact server every 0.5 days. The other 3 are running at School preferences, I edited my client_state.xml so my host_venue says school. These projects can run 2 hours per project, contacting home base every 0.9 days. Overall share preference is 55 for the three, 45 for the two.

I am managing. :)

The Webpage shows that (over the day) less than 80 connections are established, yesterday as lhc had the overload there were over 150 connections. Isn't that a sign to cancel the daily quota? =)

I agree is the quote even necessary any more now that the flood of returning members is subsiding....?

I have about 10GHz of firepower sitting idle waiting for LHC to give more work, so instead it's crunching...ugh....S@H just for something to do..

That's just wrong on SO many levels.... :p

That is so wrong on so many levels for you. All you want is to crunch loads of LHC, you're not interested in any of the other projects?

Okay, so you aren't. But is it too much to ask to have some damn patience to see if the server can take these 6,000 people, before it's increased to many many more, who just like you just want to bulk on work units just in case your computer ever got to do nothing when LHC went down?

BOINC is for sharing the network load. You don't need to crunch this project or another, but just have patience on Alpha and Beta projects trying to get their hardware right, with their people all over the world, none of whom will be able to just jump to your "want".

If you want a project that runs sturdy and never fails on you, go for CPDN. Because it uses long wu's, over 4 months long, you'll never be out of work.

Ageless has point:)

Anyway, the quota is now at 30 per day per host. But we might run out of work tonight... More work coming tomorrow, I hope.

Ageless:

Have you had too much coffee today, or lack a sense of humor?? :p

Ahhh you must not understand what :p means...

I am willing to overlook your rant and start over with you before you make this personal between us.

Hello Ageless, my name is Logan 5 from the United States, how are you doing today? I'm fine and hope that you are doing well also.

-Isin't that a much better way to approach people then your method?......LOL

Markku:

Thank you for your prompt attention to this. Now the science benefits by my systems having some additional work to do which is all that should EVER MATTER....right?

Unlike some others who post here, the Science is the MOST important thing to me, and Particle Physics is especially interesting to me.

I don't drink coffee, can't stand the stuff. So I turn to tea, Coca Cola, or any alcoholic beverage around.

That aside, you sounded like a person who just wanted LHC to change their testing rules, just because your computer ran out of units too fast. I merely pointed you in the way of other projects around. Or I didn't, but I assume you are intelligent enough to find them. ;)

Although, being an American and intelligent isn't too easy, just let's not fight about that. I approve of your truce. If you use than rather then then in a next equation. :)

I'm not English, just live close to its shore to its East. A Gamble for an American, or you just check my account ID. ;)

Now everyone follow me, for I have point. :D
