The LHC@Home servers have been up and down quite a bit over the last few days. The error is a name resolution error - probably as a result of the server your client is trying to reach being down for an extended period, and the DNS caches have expired as a result. CERN have new servers and are ostensibly working to bring the project up again, although there's not much evidence of this as yet. If you wait and run other BOINC projects all will come right.
