The work we do here is valuable to the LHC
I agree. I say crunch for the LCH while you can at time of this post there are 27,093 Workunit's to be crunched. all the workunit's I have crunched haven't got stuck but they have been up around the 8 hour mark.
Cheers

There will be tons of data to be processed, however little if any will be coming through the BOINC project according to the last official word I saw. The data size to processing time ratio is likely to be too high for efficient distribution.

OK thankyou for the info I was unaware of this. Keck_Komputers can you remember where you were reading the latest official word? I'd be interested in having a read.
Thank's for info

My understanding was that when the LHC goes live there will be a heap of work to be processed something like over 100,000 DVD’s of data collected a year for us to process, is this the case or not?

I was under the impression that the project switch on date had been delayed some what. I hope I am wrong in saying this. Dose anyone know when it will be going live? I have had a glance through the forum but I can't see anything.

Actually, I'm a little exited about the LHC switch-on this November ;)

Same here
Dose this mean that we will have a steady stream of work starting in November?
33) Message boards : Number crunching : Even if there's no "real work", may I suggest a "real test"? (Message 17368)
Posted 16 Jul 2007 by Speedy
Post:
Much has changed since there was real work in the pipline - the severs have moved, looks like project directories have changed, etc...

There have been a couple of small bursts of WU's for testing, but, as many people have the resource for LHC set really high, when work is available, it goes to only a few machines.

As a result, not many of the clients have been tested, and there probably hasn't been that much of a load on the servers. Last time there was "real work" most of the WU's I got were ghosts.. (like 15 of 20)

How about using old data for a real test run before new data hits the pipline? I'm thinking on the order of 100K WUs.

Work out stuff now before real data is comprimised, is all I'm suggesting... (on both the client and server end)

I agree 100% with what you are saying
34) Message boards : Number crunching : Can't Access Work Units (Message 17353)
Posted 13 Jul 2007 by Speedy
Post:
According the server status page there are 116 WUs available. But still the server status for the scheduler and upload/download server states "disabled". Is this intentional or something wrong?

Best regards, Christoph

It is now saying 'work is low' with about '105 workunits in progress' so everything must be back to normal?

Cheers
