Computation error
(Message 21899)
Posted 27 Feb 2010 by Venturini Dario[VENETO] Post: Me too :-( [damn buttons -:)] Me too, this newbie coding had the following effects: - killed the WU - killed the boinc client - killed the boinc manager Not even a system restart could fix it and make BOINC run again. I received the following messages when forcing boinc.exe to load: I had to delete the whole LHC directory to make it work again... Thank you very much! |

Pending WUs
(Message 20732)
Posted 31 Oct 2008 by Venturini Dario[VENETO] Post: Some of the WUs I got from the last batch are pending even though all the other PCs that crunched THE SAME WUs got their credit (even those that reported it AFTER me). Here\'s an example: http://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/result.php?resultid=15222300 and here are the credits given to others but not to me: http://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/workunit.php?wuid=2970552 |

Thanks for the reply guys, good to know that. Anyway I can\'t go back to any other versione because I need this one to run GPUGrid fine. Too bad for LHC@Home, hope they fix the issue soon |

All my WUs resulted invalid
(Message 20654)
Posted 13 Oct 2008 by Venturini Dario[VENETO] Post: All completed without errors, all claimed less credits than the other PCs, all resulted invalid. I\'m running Ubuntu 64 and BOINC 6.3.14. The CPU is OCed to 2.5Ghz (former 2Ghz) but it used to work fine. Everything happened with the last batch of WU, which I received AFTER installation of BOINC 6.3.14. Anyone else reports the same issue? |

Actual LHC data to crunch?
(Message 20303)
Posted 13 Sep 2008 by Venturini Dario[VENETO] Post: Is it my imagination or are these 1mil turn wu\\\'s taking longer than they used to? Seems like they\\\'re not spinning up as fast as they used to. I noticed that too. Quite longer, I may add. Around 33% |

Shared Memory Errors
(Message 19563)
Posted 28 Apr 2008 by Venturini Dario[VENETO] Post: Normal, don't worry. Plus, it's a server-side error, so it won't affect your machine. |

How often does LHC shut down?
(Message 19524)
Posted 23 Apr 2008 by Venturini Dario[VENETO] Post: In the end we need someone to give us the money we need, and we keep bidding for money trying to get up and running as best we can and we haven't got it. Can you give us the e-mail of the person at CERN that decides which projects get money and which ones don't? I think a couple thousands e-mails could perhaps convince him to lend you a few bucks.. |

How often does LHC shut down?
(Message 19488)
Posted 18 Apr 2008 by Venturini Dario[VENETO] Post: a) We have a second project it's called the Grid. The LHC's computing needs are being fulfilled by that IF we can get something ported to BOINC we will but I reiterate we have no money. Also it's not just the download are you all willing to have large, hard drives, massive broadband connections and run only Scientific Linux (CERN edition) and not use your machines for anything else? Isn't it possible to virtualize it? I'm fine with all the requests except "not use my machine for anything else" But, anyway, as far as I'm concerned, I'd prefer a BOINC app. I mean, there must be something a normal computer can do. Do you need 5-10-50GB of space for datas? Maybe you can use our bandwidth to transfer all datas around the world "torrent like"? Be creative ;) |

granted credit lower than claimed credit
(Message 18942)
Posted 31 Jan 2008 by Venturini Dario[VENETO] Post: why lhc is a project that offers a granted credit lower than claimed credit? There is any reason? Mi sembri italiano: No, non c' nessun motivo specifico di LHC. Solamente il solito quorum a 2. Evidentemente tu hai un claimed pi alto dell'altro utente e quindi il punteggio scende al suo livello. No, no specific reason: just the BOINC's quorum mechanism. You can read more at the BOINC website EDIT: LOL ho visto che siamo nello stesso team. Se hai bisogno di aiuto ti conviene rivolgerti al nostro portale (ora che ne abbiamo uno): www.boincitaly.org |
