Can someone help me understand...
(Message 41617)
Posted 18 Feb 2020 by Ben Segal Post: Can anyone tell me how BOINC is improving, say, CMS. What exactly is the gain to these computers doing this processing? Surely it cannot be to save time to analyze data, so what is it exactly trying to accomplish? Hi Maylinh, This BOINC project LHC@home is contributing real computing power to the CERN experiments provided by thousands of volunteers lending us their home computers. The work they do is really incorporated into CERN’s results. Most of it is used to simulate experiments rather than analyse their measurements but this is an essential part of our work to compare theory with experiments. Hope this helps. Ben |

Posted 10 Dec 2019 by Ben Segal Post: Hello, it's been 10 years today that I started to participate in the project lhc@home. Well done Little Fr(ederik?), Many thanks for all your work and yes, contributions like yours are extremely useful for CERN's progress in exploring the quantum world. However, the time travel problem isn't on our current list... All the very best, Ben (LHC@home co-founder) |

Does anti-matter subject to anti-gravity
(Message 36967)
Posted 6 Oct 2018 by Ben Segal Post: CERN has at least three experiments looking at gravity and anti matter (not anti gravity to be precise). They are AeGIS, ALPHA and GBAR, all in the same hall called the Anti Matter Factory. An article you may enjoy is at https://cerncourier.com/does-antimatter-fall-up/ - good reading. |

New Version 263.70
(Message 35965)
Posted 20 Jul 2018 by Ben Segal Post: I had the same problem with the previous version (before mulit core). I dont know exact numbers, but maybe 1 out of 6 or so did not correctly setup the proxy. It doesn't seem very serious as the VM was terminated even though the power-off failed. Perhaps Laurence can comment but for now don't worry... Ben |
