So I had this weird Theory task showing up. Having 9 days remaining compute time. Decided to look into the task settings to see what the hell of a task that was.

Actually the job just finished after 2 hours and 8 minutes of runtime...
Still pretty strange..... The estimated time is most of the time a little off with all tasks, but 9 days ...
2) Message boards : Number crunching : 11 May Synchrocyclotron StartUp Challenge!? (Message 44845)

How about a Team or Project challenge just for fun and for advertising the Project?
Sadly Team creation is disabled for LHC@home so there is no way for me to create a challenge on my own.

I thought about this and May 11 would be a perfect date:

11 May 1957 CERN's first accelerator - the Synchrocyclotron - starts up

The 600 MeV Synchrocyclotron (SC), built in 1957, was CERN’s first accelerator. It provided beams for CERN’s first experiments in particle and nuclear physics. In 1964, this machine started to concentrate on nuclear physics alone, leaving particle physics to the newer and much more powerful Proton Synchrotron (PS). The SC became a remarkably long-lived machine. In 1967, it started supplying beams for a dedicated unstable-ion facility called ISOLDE, which carries out research ranging from pure nuclear physics to astrophysics and medical physics. In 1990, ISOLDE was transferred to a different accelerator, and the SC closed down after 33 years of service.

What do you think about it? I think challenges are great for getting some additional CPU time due to team competition ^_^
