Thanks Pete, Upload has completed on that file, but it is now validation inconclusive along with 2 others http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/workunit.php?wuid=1765377

Should SixTrack v443.07 validate against SixTrack v444.01 ?

23) Message boards : Number crunching : Task Quota per host or per CPU core. (Message 23976)
Posted 12 Jun 2012 by Keith T.
Post:
At the moment there is a 3 task quota per core (atleast last week it worked like that).

And ofcourse on HT cards it will be double that, since boinc sees every core as two.

I don't think it is currently enforced:
http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/show_host_detail.php?hostid=9948265
Number of processors: 2
Tasks in progress: 20

That host is highly unlikely to complete all those before deadline, as his run times for the work completed so far are between 25,002.33 secs and 29,397.84 secs.
It is slower than my Intel Atom netbook on the same tasks.

Post:
Does this project still enforce any quota of tasks?

One of my wingmen http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/results.php?hostid=9948265 has so far only managed to complete 4 of the 24 tasks it received on 6 June. They all have a deadline of 13 June, 7:43 or 7:44 UTC.

I thought that there used to be a quota, but it may have been removed or raised at some time during a glut of tasks, but it would probably be a good idea to re-introduce at the moment as many hosts don't get any tasks some months while others like this Anonymous one struggle to complete the work they do get.

[EDIT]
I found this old thread http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/forum_thread.php?id=3332 after creating this new one, sorry.

I suggest a quota of "In progress" tasks of 2 per core would probably be a good place to start, when a host returns work, either validated or pending it could then get more work if available. This should enable a fairer distribution of the limited work available.

I have just noticed that my latest tasks are showing quorum and replication of 2 and 2.

http://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/workunit.php?wuid=3479835

However there also seems to be a problem with some of these new tasks, one of mine crunched sucsessfully, the other one had:
Exit status -177 (0xffffff4f)
Maximum disk usage exceeded

Still nice to see that new work is in progress.

I hope that we lots more similar batches in 2009.

I have seen this as well. I didn\'t really suspect LHC but now that you mention it, I think it has only happened while LHC has had work... but I won\'t swear to that. I\'ve seen it on gentoo with BOINC 5.10. BOINC is installed through portage so it was compiled on the box it is running on. I even tried reinstalling (which means recompiling) in case some underlying library changed but that didn\'t help. But it is pretty infrequent which of course means hard to troubleshoot...

It happened twice on me and always on LHC and never on the other 5 projects I am running. But I am sure it happens when the server wants to delete a redundant result.
Tullio

I don\'t know Linux well, but it seems to me that this could be a BOINC issue which only occurs under certain circumstances rather than a LHC@home issue.

Has this occured on any other project which cancels redundant results ?

I know that SETI Beta runs a IR=3 Q=2 policy on MultiBeam (not AstroPulse) WU\'s, so it may be worth while attaching to that project as a test, to see if this occurs on other BOINC projects.

It may also be useful to post about this on BOINC message boards, or raise a TRAC Ticket.

Keep it down but BBC Radio 4 is planning to broadcast for an entire day from CERN later in the year. This will be the first time they have ever done that and EVERY programme will be CERN based (even womens hour)

It has been announced.

I suspect that a lot of it will be available online.

Here is the direct link to the Real Player stream http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/shows/rpms/fivelive/drive_wed.ram. This should be available until shortly after next wenesdays show (About 18:00 UTC on 7th May.)

There were 2 sections of around 9 minutes each during a 3 hour show, discussing the LHC and CERN. The stream does allow you to move foreward and backward.

First LHC report: 43:30 - 52:15
Second LHC report: 1:34:30 - 1:43:45

Hope this makes it easier for people to listen to the LHC reports without having to listen to the whole show.

The 5 Live show was trailed as if the whole show would be from CERN, but it was a bit disappointing.

There was about 15 minutes of recorded interviews during a 3 hour program. The first one was at about 45 mins into the show, the second about an hour later. I will try to get the exact times and post them here if the stream allows this.

This project tickles my fancy but a while back I was getting a message that I didn't get any work but there was work for other platforms. I inquired and it was explained to me that this project hadn't been developed for the OSX (mac) platform yet.

Is there a time line for when it may be available or should I not worry about hanging around?

thanks,

Stev

See this thread http://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=2592.

It looks like the new Garfield app will run on Mac's but SixTrack is unlikely.

Posted 21 Feb 2008 by Keith T.
Post:
LHC@home uses a quorum of 3, although 5 results are sent out for each WU.

When 3 valid results have been returned, the credit that is granted is the middle claim. 4th and 5th results will also get that amount of credit if valid and returned before the deadline.

Interesting to note that it claimed ~ 1 credit/hour

I just tried to find the mimimum reccomended CPU spec for LHC on this website, but I can't find it. I know that most BOINC projects do list this.

Just noticed in BoincView that my old P233 MMX box has a new LHC task highlighted in light yellow instead of the usual green.

Then I noticed that my Athlon's latest LHC tasks have an estimated completion time of 8.5 hours instead of the usual 55 minutes.

It looks like we have some new longer tasks to crunch, I hope the old Pentium MMX makes it OK as it currently estimates completing about 4 hours past the deadline!

Due to I cant find any other way to do it and I havent received any answer in all this time (since I posted), does anybody know how or where I can contact the admin or responsable of this project to find a solution to this problem?

I have made your URL's clickable using [ url ] [ /url ] tags.

Neasan was fairly active here until recently. I don't know why he has stopped posting, but some of the "trolls" may have had something to do with it.

After much searching, I found this page http://www.ph.qmul.ac.uk/person.php?initials=N&surname=O%Neill which I think may be helpful.
