Post: I don't feel so bad now ... have less than 60 'pending' from different runs this year. Hopefully cleanup/housekeeping will be at top of the 'Wish List', or better yet resolved when newer code is implemented. I've had more success at 'merging' if possible as opposed to waiting to 'delete' an old pc. Otherwise, you really don't see the old ones unless you click on the 'All Hosts' link. One step at a time, we'll get there! |

Post: Windows 5.10.28 Recommended version (Win98+, Win2000+) 5.8.16 Recommended version (Win95+, WinNT40+) In my experience, if possible (and not a work-related/dedicated computer/server), I take the Win98SE CD and perform a clean install ............ LOTS of problems solved over 95 and NT4. As an added bonus, you might even get USB support! (not laughing myself ...) Ask any local IT guy, they'll have a CD for you!! A WinXP Home CD goes for less than $80 USD on EBay!! Out with the old, in with the ... uh, newer! :) |

Post: I agree ... very time consuming on remotely managed computers. I've all but given up running LHC on those, just work with the ones I can touch every day. I'll just be patient - had some luck merging earlier this year, so I'll wait a little longer. I think most folks are doing the same ... |

Post: I think Neasan gave up on this thread a long time ago. You get about half way through and it became a battle of words, and worse. The original point is lost - whether it was an opinion, a valid question, feedback, or sheer foolishness. I've seen nothing but great responsiveness from the moderators here in the past few months (much better than in the many months of waiting during migration) - the way to get a thread acknowledged and acted on is not the way this one is going. I raise you 5.72 cents and offer the following: * create a 'Wish List' or 'Suggestions' or ‘To Do’ main category in the message boards; LHC has the least amount of categories I’ve seen. Not a top priority, but it will help differentiate the ‘must look at’ from the ‘hey, I’m here and crunching’ posts * questions, suggestions, or feedback like the IR5 for LHC could be reposted there and given time to be digested by persons more knowledgeable about the exact reason(s) * let this thread die, it's outlived it usefulness * if you need to 'show-off' your vocabulary - I'd love help wording flame-mail to my insurance company, lawyer, gas company, etc. and could better use your help there! * if this thread continues … I won’t ‘add’ you as a friend on MySpace |

Post: Good point(s) ... this thread could continue on forever. Everyone has a valid point, but the purpose of all Boinc projects is to accomplish a certain goal. Whether it's for testing something new, fixing existing problems, or for a real-time data crunching like LHC. We've waited many, many months for work ... so I'm just happy we're crunching again and will contribute what I can. We got what we wanted, so let's just accept the fact that this project has an IR5 with a quorum of 3, done. No other projects would consider changing unless there was a big problem. Nanohive is the only project I know of that did just this. Anyway, my 2.55 cents, but let's be courteous here - all of us are contributing to one of the greatest creations of our time - - the collider! |

Bugs - problems thread

Post: It's been explained somewhere about the duplicate hosts not merging, just can't recall where. I do know there's a thread on 'ghost' hosts - check that one. As far as I can remember if the slightest change is made to a machine (ie add memory, 0-clock processor, winxpsp2, etc) OR if you install different Boinc client (which would classify the same processor differently), then the computers will not 'match'. My solution: if they don't merge, I wait for the results to be '0' and then just delete them. If recurring ghosts - search for that thread. Hope that helps ... the forums are a great resource, if you have time to search through threads you can usually find the answer somewhere! |

Post: maybe because today is my 2-yr anniversary with LHC?! coincidink or no! I'm keeping my computers ready for LHC work, but I hear you on the 'full' thing. I'm running proteins, neuron, simap, lhc, and pirates - talk about hurtin' for work! So, I've been grabbing some wcg and seti, but both fill me up with big wu's. Oh well, I'm crunching - that's all that matters! |
