1) Message boards : Number crunching : Status of LHC@home (Message 22852)

Post:
LHC@home (classic) will live on as far as we can see but will be hosted at CERN. LHC@Home 2.0 is a new project also at CERN. SO this is a good thing... a new project and further developments of the original project.

Hello,
As Neasan said I have been working out at CERN with Eric McIntosh trying to work out why these jobs have been failing... To help debug this we have sent some more jobs through the system, some of these jobs have run OK some have failed. We are working on this although we do not fully understand it... yet!

Hi there,
We still have some more tuning to do on the LHC and your help for that is appreciated.

We also have some other particle physics projects in the pipeline.

It appears you now have 3 teams needing a team founder change.
Why not knock all these off your to do list at one time.

Krunchin-Keith [USA] user id# 289 for team USA id# 26
Yank user id# 23101 for team US Navy id# 143
Major user id# 34513 for team SETI.Germany team id# 42

Thanks...

I will try and contact the current founders.
If their e-mails bounce I'll change the founder this week.
If the e-mail does not bounce I plan to make the change in the week begining the 7th Jan 2008.

Thanks Alex and Neasan, just curious if you have 'had a look' yet?
As yet it has not changed, does it take a few days perhaps to take effect?.

Err... no sadly I got distrated the other day.
It is done now!

G'Day Neasan
Would this be able to be done before the new server code update or after?
I know how to wait (my original request was made on the 8 July 2006).
Just wondering now that you have kicked the project along a bit more.
It is not only for me as others would like this as well, as you can see from this thread.

Thanks Conan.

Hmm I asked Alex to do this and he said he had, may have been another person/team I'll check now

I'm afraid that was another team...
I'll look at this now.

Hi, As I just explained in another thread we have throttled the settings back fo a few days to coincide with a press release so that the jobs get shareed around a bit... especially if we get some new users.

Normal service to return next week.

Hi,
We are releasing a Press Release today to officially Launch the LHC@HOME move to the UK. So we might expect some new users to turn up over the weekend! Please be nice to them ;-)

So that they have a fighting chance of getting a job to process we changed some of the settings including the daily quota.

We will change things back to normal over the first few days next week...

Happy Crunching (if a little bit throttled for a few days!)

11) Message boards : Number crunching : lhcathometest? (Message 17221)
Posted 3 Jul 2007 by Profile Alex Owen
Post:
No one is supposed to know about lhcathometest.
It is an internal testing and staging area only.
The fact that you can see it is probably an apache config bug on my part!

lhcathometest is not a replacement for lhcathomealpha. If we need some testing which needs volunteer help we will create an lhcathomealpha project and ask for help. We don't have a need for that kind of testing at the moment hence no lhcathomealpha project at the moment!

Posted 16 May 2007 by Profile Alex Owen
Post:
The idea is that to migrate you will have to do nothing!

Techincally we will change the cern.ch DNS entry to point to an IP address in the Queen Mary, University of London network (138.37.0.0/16).
The rest should then fall into place!
