Thanks again, Peter. :-)

Good 2cu again :)

btw you probably only needed to merge once, as you can merge more than two computers together at one time. (maybe that is what you meant?) Best plan is to click on the one that has the highest number, and then click merge, then tick all the other computers that match it.

The only time this does not work is if one of the ghost machines has some ghost work still listed againat it. (then sometimes merge is allowed, sometimes not - I have not worked out why). If that happens then you need to wait for the work to be deleted before you can merge that ghost host.

and finally, it is nearly Halloween. Look out for ghost wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

R~~

Hi River~~!

Yes, long time no see. :-) I'm mostly at AstroPulse/Beta at the moment.

River~~, I had three full pages of computers! First, I went to the bottom of the page and clicked "select all", and then merge, and I did this three times before I ended up with my one and real computer! There were many! I don't know how many because when I saw that long list of ghost computers, I went imidiatly to the merge page. And as said, I clicked "select all" three times!

Yes, it's the time of the year when you don't want to buy on ebay!

Tonight when I saw that I had got a LHC WU, lo and behold, I went to check up on my account page, just to check out things, as I haven't crunched LHC for a long time.

Then I noticed that my computer had spawned itself to multiple instances, so I had to merge three times before I got back to my one and only computer.

I also noticed that I had failed downloading some WU's the other day, which I never noticed that day, so maybe all the failed downloads have created a new computer each time?

So please check your computers and see if yours have been spawned also.

Ok I re-read this thread and as i know, LHC is already "optimized"; I was just curious if an optimized BOINC client would give less accurate LHC results. It seems as if this is so. Sorry, I should have read this thread more carefully.

Thank you, and if this assertion is incorrect please correct me,
ACLUguy
Post Script: No need to respond unless i am incorrect. :) thanks again

I don't know if I understand you correct, do you think an optimized Seti client will corrupt your LHC results?

I don't have the optimized client but I have the optimized science application installed, so when I start my BOINC manager, the log starts with these lines:

1/27/2006 10:10:22 AM||Starting BOINC client version 5.3.2 for windows_intelx86
1/27/2006 10:10:22 AM||libcurl/7.14.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8 zlib/1.2.3
1/27/2006 10:10:22 AM||Data directory: C:\\Programmer\\BOINC
1/27/2006 10:10:22 AM|SETI@home|Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform
1/27/2006 10:10:22 AM||Processor: 1 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz
1/27/2006 10:10:22 AM||Memory: 503.36 MB physical, 1.20 GB virtual
1/27/2006 10:10:22 AM||Disk: 37.25 GB total, 23.61 GB free

What this means is that when I crunch Seti WU's, it uses Crunch3rs client, and when I crunch other WU's, it uses my "normal" BOINC client, and my returned results are totally kosher in the other projects.

But you have to think of those who like to sit around looking at that nice optomized client when it is not working. As long as they use the one we are using now when there is work. Have to make them feel good.
Ray

Ohhhh yeah, I spend hours every day sitting and watching my Seti optimized science client! ;-D

I don't know if I crunch with the latest BOINC version, but I crunch with 5.3.2 with no errors at all, neither here or in Rosetta, which can be quite tricky also.

Sadly, those of us that detached to limit log growth cannot attach and sit in the pending queue ...

not for months on end, but can't you let the log grow over the weekend and prune it every 24hrs or so? That seems better than trying to babysit the boxes every half hour.

I agree with you River~~, when you know it's a question of time, then let the log grow. Or you can exit BOINC and open it again from time to time. Then the log is cleared.

Michael is quite correct: the work is generated by accelerator engineers who don't always warn the admins (or the LHC@home coordinator) what/when they are about to submit.

That's what has happened this time.

Chrulle is now alerted and will unblock the scheduler when he can (it's Saturday afternoon here ...).

We will give out information on the home page when we know more details ourselves.

In the meantime, Happy New Year to all our crunchers.

And Happy New Year to you too. :-)

Yes, we're all waiting anxiously for the new WU's.

Fuzzy - are you related to Mathusilia by any chance???

Aren't we all? I think he was a close relative to Adam and Eve, so we all must be descendants, and with that relatives to him! ;-)

It's just a kind of funny, as I should be one of the WU hoarders with my turnaround time on about 888 years, and a download of 100 WU's per day! What a cache that would be! But I don't have any LHC WU's right now and returned my last one several days ago! ;-)

EDIT: And BTW, that should be 887.86 years! Where I live, we use the comma as the decimal point, so I copy - pasted from the calculator! So "only" about 888 years, not 887,860 years!

LOLLLL!!!!

I just checked my own Average turnaround time, and it's 324068.08 days! (887,86 years!!!)

But I still have a Maximum daily WU quota per CPU on 100/day, maybe it's broken?! ;-)

Hi Everyone!

I'm kind of new here. This is my replacement project for Einstein which I quit. I won't go into why but...

Alledged TROLL at Einstein,
-Mrs. anon

PS: I like this project better anyway.

Hi Mr. and Mrs. anon! This project is real cool, and the science is more cool!

This project has had my 50 % since they went public and I was able to get an account. Else you might look into Rosetta@home, which got the 30 %, Einstein had before from me! That's a cool project also!

But wellcome!
