Do you have a second language? (not English or German)

If so, you could help by becoming a translator for one of the BOINC stats sites -

Have a look at the charts and layout.

Please contact Markus by sending a PM. ( register for the forum 1st )

For a while I have been wondering and since we are still waiting here I decided to ask (instead of looking through all the threads)

Is there a reason why my LHC stats on those links we have did not stay up to date?

I am at 92,016.49 right now but when I check the links they still say..............

(btw this is the first time I posted that box in all my years)

Calling all members of BOINC@AUSTRALIA!

You may be aware that Aussie Assault 7 is due to begin (on 01 June) and will run until 14 June.
The target is WCG - World Community Grid. This project actually crunches four separate causes:-
1) Fight Aids at home
2) Genome comparison
3) Human Proteome folding
4) Help cure Muscular Dystrophy

WCG is slightly different to the other BOINC projects. If you have any difficulty attaching, check the team forum.
Help is available!

Any other 'homeless' crunchers out there who would like to join in the fun, feel free - we are the No.1 Australian team,
currently in 18th position Combined Boinc World ranking.
Visit the team forum here for more details about the team.

Sorry to be using an old post but just to show that not everyone here is
having problems.........

Problem is still happening! (and there is another thread about it)
This problem is making server load worse (host table in database is probably super-big by now) and also I think this is the reason why there are no stats. XML stats for hosts would be also extremely large.

Since there seems to be no post from someone _not_ experiencing the problem, I thought I'd point out that this not happening to everyone. It might be interesting to see if there are any patterns to the host duplication. . .

I have never had any of my hosts duplicated for no reason. My main host is using client Version 5.4.11 on windows xp. All of my hosts since the problem started have been windows of various versions.

I too have never had problems with duplicated hosts. My machine still contacts
LHC regularly to check for work and I have gone through all the client versions
of BOINC.

G'day crunchers everywhere!

We are now starting Aussie Assault 6 (AA6). After being runner up in the last few polls for the AA, Einstein has been chosen to be the project which will receive our concentrated attention for the next few weeks.

Bruce Allen who is the Forum moderator, Project administrator, Project developer and Project scientist for Einstein has agreed, after much persuasion from members of the Team, and instigated by Mike Mitchell, to crunch Einstein for our Team. He has started this already and his numbers are very impressive.

The Aussie Assaults are a regular team-building exercise we run here at BOINC@AUSTRALIA - the results are always impressive and we have great fun at the same time. In the last Assault (on ABC@Home) another team - l'Alliance Francophone - learnt how much fun these assaults can be and helped both BOINC@AUSTRALIA and the project itself achieve spectacular results.
(overview of that assault here.)

So - Gentlemen - START YOUR ENGINES !!!

*** UPDATE TIME ! ***

Almost two weeks have passed since AA5 on ABC@Home drew to a nail-biting close.
Both teams - BOINC@AUSTRALIA and l'Alliance Francophone gained a lot from the two weeks.

We have also gained ground in combined ranking - now placed 25th overall in team ranking.

Some of the guys are having a 'mini-assault' on one of the 'medical' projects - why not visit our forums and see if you can find out which project?
All of the individual project sub-fora are open to public view.

Next item on the agenda for the team?
Discussions will be opening shortly to decide the target for AA6!

Post:
This is a bit of an anachronism, but in terms of "fairer distribution of work", one should seriously consider participating in a BOINC project called XtremLab.

It actually studies WU allotment and overall grid efficiency. It has the potential to fix a LOT of the work distribution problems in most, if not all, BOINC-based projects.

And one should think twice before crunching for XtremLab, as admins there have not given a word about their work since months. We (participants) have no idea about project state, results...complete silence :(

This is an excellent point, and a fact I was not aware of. I'm especially unnerved by this because there is some doubt that XtremLab is COMPLETELY not-for-profit. Anyone who has information about the profit status of XtremLab please post... I'm consider detaching from the project (and yes, I am the one who was just recommending it! Oh well...)

Sorry for delayed reply to this post!
XtremLabs admins are noted for their lack of communication and updates - last update on the front page was August last year.
On a separate issue, some crunchers have stopped doing this project because of the blatant 'overclaiming' of credits that was being done by some of the top crunchers. Admins were made aware of the situation, but nothing seems to have been done. On QMC, however, where a similar thing has been happening, the admins have stated publicly that something is going to be done - credits deducted! Nanohive is another project where this is happening.
Most of this overclaiming is due to the use of Boinc 5.5.0 which is infamous for overclaiming. On a project where quorum 2 is needed, all it takes is two results using 5.5.0 to get inflated credits. HashClash and Pirates have found a way to stop the use of 5.5.0; wish all projects could find a way to do this!

The Aussie Assault on ABC@Home is coming to an end and it has been a fantastic experience for all involved.

l'Alliance Francophone ran up nearly three million credits and us Aussies are just creeping up to the two million mark now.

At the end of the day, though, it's not just the credits - it's the enjoyment of competition, team spirit and understanding different nationalities/cultures.
The guys at AF now realise exactly what we try to achieve on these Aussie Assaults and have thanked us for showing them something extra that can be gained from BOINCing.

The head honcho on the project - Hendrik - deserves a special mention for keeping everything together while two teams of looneys went at it hammer and tongs!

Looking forward to Aussie Assault 6..........

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=35817

Well, we're at it again! AA5 has been mounted on http://abcathome.com/
and it has turned into a fantastic struggle - BOINC@AUSTRALIA versus l'Alliance Francophone.

Here's a clip from the project news section;

06 February, 2007
It's been a while since the last news. Everything is running pretty good, and we're very satisfied. Currently there is a friendly exciting competition going on between Boinc Australia and all french speaking persons gathered in l'Alliance Francophone. Who will win is an interesting question, the French speaking guys have assembled an entire army, but the Australians are tough! Or will a third team arise and claim victory? Further more, today I rewrote part of the stats daemon, I hope it will be implemented tomorrow: stats can be updated more frequently and it contains a few bug fixes.

....and you can follow some of the battle here -
http://abcathome.com/forum_thread.php?id=76#1638

AA5 is scheduled to run until February 14th and it will be interesting to see the final result
of this David vs. Goliath face-off!
http://abcathome.com/top_teams.php?sort_by=total_credit

Of course, anyone can join in the fun - it's not just the race for No.1 !

Sadly I flew back to Denmark this morning. But, I thought I would take one last look at the server before starting work tomorrow. The links should be fixed.

Do not expect too much support as there is officially no admin. All work on the server is done by volunteers in their spare time at the moment. This will soon change as the server is migrated to queen marys in england.

At the conference I ran into the guy who is going to take over the forums, and he is a really nice bloke. So you guys be nice to him. :-)

cheers,

Hey Chrulle! Thanks for dropping in and getting the project out of a mess! And even though the server is re-locating to my green and pleasant land, we all hope you will still 'drop in' and say "Hi!" to everyone whenever you can.....

Yes - it's the full version from 'The Song Remains The Same' including the fantastic violin bow sequence from Jimmy Page.
Special note - watch the very end of the piece - note the speed at which John Bonham plays the drums. It is not a camera trick!
