Yes have noticed the last few I have returned are now averaging the two results.
Thanks for doing that, will keep monitoring and see how it goes.

Credit is way too low, I am getting under 10 credits per hour on this project. I just had an over 17 hour WU give back just 137 points, less than 8 cr/h.

Can the credit system be looked at please, as per Zombie67's first post.

They last contacted the servers on the 21st and 22nd of August.

The server for LHC has now moved from London back to Cern and you need to detach from the project and then re-attach using the url http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/
Then all should line back up and your computers will start talking to the project again.

There has been plenty of work although today it has run out possibly due to some work done on Tuesday.

Are you sure it is back up?

I am unable to upload results as it says the Project servers may be temporarily down
This has been going on for many hours.

I have a 17 hour WU and many smaller ones to send back and don't want to lose them (even if I wont get much credit for them (credit here is way too low)).

Conan

(edit:- strangely this problem appears to be only affecting my two Linux machines, can't confirm Windows as I only have one WU left and it will take another 5 hours to finish, only since the Tuesday Server work)

It is suggested that you not reset but Detach and then Re-attach using the url http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/

It originally didn't work for me but after some more Admin adjusting all is now working, pity the credit is so poor (mostly 10 or less cr/h).

Windows and Linux do the same thing, wont download due to http error

Detached one Linux and one Windows machine reattached both and got the same result as I had before.
The other Linux and Windows machines I have will wait and see if it all sorts itself out.

All 4 machines managed to grab one WU each and all now are stuck trying to download those WU's, not getting very far.

Good that we can see what work is available on the status page, pity I can't get any of it.

Time for another update.

Well my last Opteron 285 has finally been put down.
First it would run but not do a restart, had to manually start it all the time if it lost power or an update required a restart.
Then it would not start at all if 2 graphic cards were installed, worked out that one of the PCIe slots had died.

(snip)

It just does not end, let the fun continue.

Did you put a wooden stake through their hearts so they wouldn\\\'t return from the grave to bite the rest of your computers on the neck?

G\'Day Tom95134,

No I didn\'t but I still have them lying around to scare the current ones, showing them what will happen if they fail me.

HA HA HA, The power, It is getting to me. I can bring them to life and I can take it away, don\'t get me mad now my little computer friends, or ELSE!

Oh, ah, don\'t know what came over me, wooden stakes, biting on the neck ? They wouldn\'t dare, would they ? I fed them gave them shelter and cleaned them, they love me, I hope.

Well my last Opteron 285 has finally been put down.

Then it would not start at all if 2 graphic cards were installed, worked out that one of the PCIe slots had died.

So it has been very good to me and run for over 4 years I believe.

Updated it to an AMD Phenom II X6 1100T @ 3.3 GHz with 4 GB RAM.

Out of bed at 0700 on the morning of Thursday the 12th of May, started backing up programmes and getting components ready.
This took awhile so I started the rebuild around Midday.

I replaced the motherboard, CPU, CPU Cooler and RAM, also plugged back in both my ATI 5870 graphic cards.
Found I can no longer put the side cover on the box as the CPU cooler is too large but that\'s OK, I will just rest the side cover against the Box.

Then started loading the backup.

Bugger, the backup did not work.

So I had to reinstall Windows from scratch, as it would not upgrade correctly (many hours trying to do this as I did not want to lose my data).

After 31 hours, many restarts, lots of updates, many reloaded and installed programmes later, I finally had it working to the point that I could run BOINC on it, surf the net and do e-mail.
I stayed awake the whole time trying to get it working, the wife was not amused with me and I had gotten very annoyed with Windows.

Isn\'t working with computers lots of fun ???
Well most of the time it can be.

So now my little garden plot consists of

2x AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.2GHz, 4 GB RAM, 2x 250 GB HD
1x AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.2GHz, 4 GB RAM, 2x 80 GB HD, 2x ATI 5870 x 1 GB graphic cards.
1x AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.2GHz, 8 GB RAM, 2x 250 GB HD
1x AMD Phenom II X6 1100T @ 3.3GHz, 4 GB RAM, 2x 250 GB HD, and 2x ATI 5870 x 1 GB graphic cards.

This now equals

5 CPUs
24 CPU Processing Cores
77.4 GHz combined frequency
24 GB RAM on computers with 4 GB RAM on Graphic cards
2,160 GB Hard Drive Storage

Maybe it will be a while before I need to upgrade again ?. Although I do have a new CPU Cooler for my Windows X4 955 machine, to quieten it down.

It just does not end, let the fun continue.

BOINC was created with the idea of exploiting \\\"unused cycles\\\" in PCs. Now people are building computer farms and home supercomputers using GPUs (nVidia and ATI/AMD). This is already killing SETI@home which is closed down most of the time.Too many results in too little time and the servers are overloaded.Be careful.
Tullio

Fun isn\'t it?

The servers catch up sooner or later, if they don\'t and the results are still needed then the servers get updated or they lose the results, the volunteers and solutions to the projects problems.

Pushing technology is what playing with computers is all about and I love doing it (as long as it does not cost me too much).

300 hundred days since last update,

Well the Opteron 275 finally died as well, another motherboard it seems, that\'s the 3rd one now in less than a year.

Had to wait 3 months for new gear to turn up so I could upgrade it.

It is now an AMD Phenom II X6 @ 3.2 GHz with 8 GB of RAM as I will update to 64 bit in the near future, same hard drives as before.

Now have,

(My Last) AMD Opteron 285 @ 2.6 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 2x 250 GB HD, 2x ATI Radeon HD5870 1 GB graphic cards
AMD Phenom II X4 @ 3.2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 2x 80 GB HD, 2x ATI Radeon 5870 1 GB graphic cards
2x AMD Phenom II X4 @ 3.2 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 2x 250 GB HD
AMD Phenom II X6 @ 3.2 GHz, 8 GB RAm, 2x 250 GB HD.

Equals
68 GHz total clock frequency
2,160 GB Hard Disk space
22 GB total RAM
6 CPUs
22 processing Cores.

With the graphic cards now producing majority of my total.

Anybody know what is going on?

It is just short of 2 years since anyone posted in this thread.
As there is nothing much else happening in LHC Volunteer land I will update my computer list.

Did have
1x Intel P4 2.53, 1GB RAM, 2x80GB
1x AMD X2 4800+, 2GB RAM, 2x250GB
1x AMD Opteron 275 (@2.2GHz), 4GB RAM, 2x250GB
3x AMD Opteron 285 (@2.6GHz), 2GB RAM ea, 4x250GB + 2x400GB

Equals

6 CPUs
19 Cores
47.33 GHz (Total Frequency)
13 GB RAM (Total Memory)
2,960 GB Hard Disk space

Finally retired permanently the Intel P4 2.53 and upgraded it to a Quad core AMD X4 955 @ 3.2 GHz with 4 GB RAM.

Two of my AMD Opteron 285s died (appears to be motherboard and I can't get anymore of them), so I have upgraded one of them so far with another AMD X4 955 quad core.

The AMD X2 4800+ has also been have lots of motherboard problems so have decided to replace that one also with another AMD X4 955 quad core.

So this means that I now have
(the 4800+ is still being built at the moment but will be working soon)

1x AMD Opteron 275 (same as above)
1x AMD Opteron 285, 2GB RAM (may upgrade to 4) 2x250 GB
3x AMD Phenom II X4 955, 4GB RAM ea, 2x80 GB + 4x250 GB

Gives

5 CPUs
20 CPU Cores
57.60 GHz (Total Frequency)
18 GB RAM (20 GB with 285 upgrade)
2,160 GB (Hard Disk space)

So with less CPUs,
I have more Cores,
much higher overall crunching Frequency,
more RAM,
with a bit less hard drive storage space.

I also have 3 ATI graphic cards that are now producing most of my output, who would of thought that when we last posted here in this thread?

If the project was notified in November 2007 (by myself) and maybe before that, I am wondering why it has taken so long for something to be done, and why it needed the whole project to be closed.
Perhaps the site was being hit by a more recent SPAM attack ?? and this bought the site down therefore not being able to notify the users.

If this is the reply to my original posting then it took awhile to have an effect even if I still have not received an answer from the actual project, I am glad the spam is now gone or at least lessened.

Well at least things are back to normal again, whatever normal is.
