Just to clarify most of the current jobs are part of the
intensity scan which I mentioned earlier.
The very very long jobs all begin wlxu7_*

The "wlxu2_*" work unit type is the type that has been reported in this column and is the type that I have that report possible run times of 50 odd hours.

Could also include wlxu7_* but I have not seen any of these.

It looks like there is a small misunderstanding of the situation.
The only available MAC executable has probelms and therefore it was withdrawn.
There is no older version available as far as I understand the situation.

Meens: As long as there is no new one released to public you won't get work even if there would be 100000 WUs available because there is no suitable executable for your system.

Hope I got that right, if not feel free to correct me.

Christoph, Arjan also has a Windows computer as well and it has not picked up any work since the 10/7/12, that is the system he can't get work on.

Allowed work fetch again and this time work downloaded.
PNI work units on 3 machines and SSE2 on the other. A number of work units downloaded on the Windows machines but only 1 each for the Linux machines.
I am interested to see how they run as the Linux WUs before were way behind the 8 ball.

Strange that after stopping LHC for a week or two due to the wrong applications being downloaded and Linux being so slow compared to Windows, that when I allow tasks I am unable to get any at all.

Server says over 8,000 WUs ready to send.

Keeps saying "Got 0 new tasks", "No tasks sent".

Tried a reset and a detach and reattach but still the same, Linux and Windows.

Oh well I did finally get to the 50,000 milestone the other week, guess I wont be getting to the 100,000 milestone any time soon, never mind I gave it a go.

I think the lack of SSE3 detetion is a bug in 6.10.x some one else reported that on windows with Intel CPU.

Try getting 6.12.x or even rock on to the 7.0.28!

I tried a while ago to update to 6.12.34 on my Linux computers but I could not get it to work due to the missing version data on one of the files, and no matter what I tried and searched for I could not get it working so gave up.

Same thing with 7.0.25 but worse as at least 3 files were missing version data that it claimed it needed.

I sent this information through to BOINC Alpha Testing but have heard nothing back.
Perhaps 7.0.28 is the response to my earlier problem? Perhaps not.

I believe that compiling my own version of BOINC on that particular computer will get everything working, but not being a programmer I am reluctant to try this.

I also read another user saying that once I go to 7.0.x it is hard to go back to an earlier version.

I am already running 6.12.34 on my Windows computers and it has the same problem with BOINC not detecting my CPU attributes.

So I will either continue running a lot slower than I am capable of doing or I will go elsewhere, I will think about it.

Thanks anyway for your help and suggestions.

Run time the same on my Windows 32 bit machines with the new 444.01 application against the old 443.07 application.

My Linux 64 bit machine was taking up to 62,868 seconds (17.46 hours) to complete a 443.07 WU.

Have not had a successful 444.01 WU yet as I got all the download failures yesterday.
But I do have one running that after 12.14 Hours is at 77.107% with an estimate of 15.74 Hours to completion.

Again not a lot of difference from the previous application, but a minor speed increase, nothing like the results that Eric was getting in testing.

Computers are all AMD Phenom II 4 and 6 core.

Conan

EDIT:-- Well I think I know why the run times are nearly the same.
On checking out what BOINC picks up for each CPU it does not detect SSE3 on any of my AMD Phenom II CPUs, which from what I have read all have this feature. Windows or Linux makes no difference.

So I am running the non SSE3 version of the application due to BOINC not detecting all the attributes of my CPUs, which makes the project think I do not have this capability when in fact I do.

If the work units finish very quickly there are two main reasons this could happen; The Work Unit has an error, or the particle beam the Work Unit is trying to simulate crashed into the wall and did not make a circuit round the LHC (or similar analogy).

When you are waiting for validation then the Work Unit was not in error but has finished for whatever reason, and is just waiting to see if the a second run by another computer confirms your results.

I don't believe you have anything to worry about. Mixed in with the short ones are much longer ones.

Post:
At the moment there is a 3 task quota per core (atleast last week it worked like that).

And ofcourse on HT cards it will be double that, since boinc sees every core as two.

I don't think it is currently enforced:
http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/show_host_detail.php?hostid=9948265
Number of processors: 2
Tasks in progress: 20

That host is highly unlikely to complete all those before deadline, as his run times for the work completed so far are between 25,002.33 secs and 29,397.84 secs.
It is slower than my Intel Atom netbook on the same tasks.

That host seems to have issues, as I have the same processor and also 64 bit Linux (later version) but I get through the tasks way faster than this host.
The Floating Point speed is very poor at less than 900 when mine is around 2500, the Integer speed is also low at around 5000 when mine is around 7000 (no over clock).

Plus it has run a lot of errors.

Anyway it has missed the deadline on the remaining tasks and they have been resent out.

Conan,

you are probably hitting on the old address in the cache which points to the old machine. That machine is indeed shut down for maintenance.

Try to flush out your cache.

Thanks Igor,

The only thing I hadn't done was to stop BOINC and restart it. I did this and all is now working fine, pity I missed all the work.

Thanks again

Same here with 64 bit Linux (Fedora 16) being up to 3 times slower than 32 bit Windows and 64 bit Windows of any version.
Over 9,000 seconds on Linux and just over 3,000 seconds on Windows, odd to say the least, especially on similar or the same CPUs.

Well since the migration one of my Linux computers can no longer able to talk to the project. I saw there was some work so tried to update and get some. It last spoke to the project on the 4th of April.

I have updated, no go.
I Reset Project (twice), no go.
I Detached and Re-attached (twice), still no go.

The Project directory has been re-created under the BOINC directory, but I now have no files in the project directory due to this bogus error message.

I keep getting the response that the Project is shut down for Maintenance.
All Server lights are green and my other 3 computers are not getting this message, they in fact can download fresh work and upload with no problems.

I can't work it out.
My two Linux machines have the same OS and all was working up until recently.

Hello Admin?

Can the incorrect credit that was awarded to 4 users (due to the apparent work of one particular user, as stated in the opening few posts), please be corrected.
It is now 10 days since first posted.

It is not just the matter of a few hundred credits but many 10s of thousands of credits, which needs to be corrected before the work units are purged and you can't see what the problem was.

Thanks

Two users computers have come in with amazing results in the last few days.

MrOctane and Bartonn

Always better to give a link so others can easily follow. This is Bartonn's task list and something is screwing up the CPU time whilst the run time looks OK. As a result of the crazy claims made by this host, there would now be three wingmen who have gotten a rather unexpected and exceedingly large bonus, with more to come as the host completes more tasks.

I'm guessing you saw the two names you mentioned by looking at those two right up the top of the list for the top performers based on RAC. There are only those two at the moment but there will be two more lucky lottery winners shortly when the newly completed mega-credits are taken into account.

Perhaps there's no malice involved. I wonder if it could be something to do with a date change while tasks were in progress??

Yeah forgot the link also it wasn't 380 Million seconds but 368 MILLION seconds.
Small detail but one must be correct as possible.
4 other people have now benefited from the claims of Bartonn, so the credit blow out is expanding as Gary has stated.

Have both returned results that have shot there totals to 1 million credits.

Incredible amount of CPU time of over 380 MILLION Seconds CPU time, bit impossible (this was on Bartonn as MrOctane is hidden).
Over 900,000 credits granted per user.

Possible computer mistakes?
Can this be checked please, seems very odd.
