I want to update my old version of Singularity for the latest version for Atlas workunits.
Should I install Singularity 3.7.4, or SingularityCE 3.8.0 ? Which version is correct for Boinc?

I've never been able to get any VirtualBox LHC tasks to run properly.
Mostly they just idle, very slowly, using no CPU, until I abort them.
I'm using the latest version of VirtualBox (6.1.12) with the correct Extension Pack.
I just tried 2 Theory work units, and ran them for 50 minutes, while they made hardly any progress before I aborted them.
Perhaps someone can look at their Stderr outputs to see if they can diagnose what I am doing wrong?

Are you using VirtualBox or are you running Atlas direct on Linux without VirtualBox ?

I'm running VirtualBox 6.0.2 with BOINC 7.14.2 on Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS.

Most of the time I don't even get the login prompt, I get a load of error messages in the terminal.
Only one of my work unit has successfully completed, in about one hour.
One ran for 2 days before I aborted it.

I don't think I'm cut out to run Atlas workunits!

OK, I tried using #<PIN> as the login, and it now asks for a password. What is the secret password?

Nothing, use strg/F2 F3 F4 or was it alt/Fx ?

None of that works. What is the correct login?

localhost login: _

I opened up the VM Console screen from the Boinc Manager and it demands a login of #<PIN> and a password.
What should I use here?

The majority of users on this project are enthusiasts who probably won't mind long, or even monster work units, as long as the deadline is long enough even for slower computers.

I have 2 work units running on my machine at the moment, and one is using the pni application and the other is using the sse2 application!

According to the Boinc Manager, my Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe nx constant_tsc pebs bts pni dtes64 monitor ds_cpl cid xtpr

Why isn't the same application used for both work units?

Which should be the correct application for my processor (Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz [Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 1])?

Does the server need to be tweaked a bit more to ensure that the correct application is sent out and used for running work units on a particular processor, or is there something about the work units which require that a particular application must be used to crunch them?

A no-brainer really. I've aborted it and set NNT.
That's yet another project that my 233MMX can't do any more.

This post is slightly off thread, so I hope I will be forgiven for this.

So far, my 14 year old 233MMX has been able to complete work satisfactorily, but now it has received a rather long looking w3_weak3_collision_err_bb work unit.

It appears to be crunching at about 0.3% per hour, with a completion time of around 146 hours, and rising.

My question is: Will the deadline be strictly enforced, as there seems no chance that it will be finished in the time allowed?

I would happily finish the work unit if I thought I would receive credits for it.

If the deadline is to be enforced then I will have to abort it.

Could the deadline be increased for these longer work units?

It hasn't ... it also has not reported yet.

I know that. My computer has sent the result, but the server seems to have lost it.
I can't send the result again as it has already gone.
All I can do is hope that it is in the server somewhere and can be found.

I spent 36 hours crunching a work unit, and when I returned the result, I got

14) Questions and Answers : Windows : Computer too slow for project? (Message 14213)
Posted 30 Jun 2006 by M0CZY
I have just attached to this project, so I haven't
received any work yet.
I have read that the deadlines for work units is
around seven days, so I am a bit worried that my very
slow (P233MMX) computer may not be able to complete
even one work unit in the time allowed!
Can someone suggest how long a work unit might take
to finish on my machine?
