Alternate collision method suggests LHC may have been total waste of $9 billion

No. Did you read the article? No? Thought not.

Why do you always post in BOLD you numbnuts?

Al.

Glad to see you haven\\\'t changed a bit. . . .

Hi.

Ive decided I dont want to submit my computer idle time to this project any longer. How do I get rid of the programme thats been downloaded, apparently? and How do I close down my account.

Regards, James

Are You still planning to donate time to other projects? If so then just click the \"DETACH\" button on the manager after highlighting LHC. If not then go into your control panel.....add or remove programs.....then delete BOINC

I am not sure I understand the system.

1. There is work to do.
2. I and my computer are waiting

Yawn

I would think that downversioning is not an option. Like many other issues this specific issue should be resolved not with a workaround but with a solution. It may take some time, it may take some of my credits. But in the end I want to see real progress. We are here to support the project (a fascinating project imho) and not just to earn credits. If credits are your major concern there are many other projects which are much more suitable for your interests. But if you are really interested in the project and its progress, give the team a chance (and the time) to come up with a real solution.

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.

Just read a post over at CPDN and they also recommend the 5.10.xx downgrade because of some issues with the 6.2.xx version

Down=versioning isn\\\'t really an option. I have other work running (long jobs) and the change from Version 6.x.x back to Version 5.x.x will likely trash all the work already done. I have taken this route in the past and seen it happen before.

I went from 6.2.xx to 5.10.xx and it worked fine. It took a little more time but I didn\'t loose my cpdn @ 86% complete and 749hrs.

EDIT: Don't forget to set U'r manager to SNOOZE before you start the downgrade!

Has anyone thought about going to a fixed credit system like some of the other projects have done? I'm not suggesting granting credits for 4 or 5 second wu's that we all get, but it would sure be alot better (at least in my opinion) than the system we have now. Dont want to cause trouble just curious.

Funny thing is I have a AMD 2200 running for me about 400 miles away and it got about 10 LHC's no problem and they tend to be the actual good ones that take close to an hour instead of a couple minutes.

@ magic, yeah strange how it always works that way huh?

But I only got a couple on my older machine (P4 2.5)

The dual 3.2 can't seem to get any again.

@ magic Dont try to update u'r manager, I usually just suspend my other work until I get some downloaded.

19) Questions and Answers : Sixtrack : When my screen savers starts up sixtrack will not display any graphics the screen just goes blank. But BIONC/sixtrack is working. Just no graphics. If I go into BOINC manager and click on show graphics, it will show up. why??? (Message 18638)
Posted 23 Nov 2007 by Profile caspr
Post:
A possible source of the problem is that the current version of sixtrack is compiled against a very old version of BOINC. In some cases this causes the graphics not to work properly. It also causes the app to run at a slightly higher priority than it should so host slowdowns can be more noticeable with this project than with other projects.

I've got two boxs loaded with 5.10.20 and 1 loaded with 5.10.28 and the screen saver graphics work on all of them. btw there all xpsp2's

Nothing seems to explain what credit does.

Credit doesn't actually do anything, it's just bragging rights! The one with the most credit wins!:o)
