Posted 25 Nov 2004 by Michael Berger Post: Scene: A cafe. One table is occupied by a group of Vikings wearing horned helmets. Whenever the word "spam" is repeated, they begin singing and/or chanting. A man and his wife enter. The man is played by Eric Idle, the wife is played by Graham Chapman (in drag), and the waitress is played by Terry Jones (also in drag). Man: You sit here, dear. Wife: All right. Man: Morning! Waitress: Morning! Man: Well, what've you got? Waitress: Well, there's egg and bacon; egg sausage and bacon; egg and spam; egg bacon and spam; egg bacon sausage and spam; spam bacon sausage and spam; spam egg spam spam bacon and spam; spam sausage spam spam bacon spam tomato and spam; Vikings: Spam spam spam spam... Waitress: ...spam spam spam egg and spam; spam spam spam spam spam spam baked beans spam spam spam... Vikings: Spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Waitress: ...or Lobster Thermidor a Crevette with a mornay sauce served in a Provencale manner with shallots and aubergines garnished with truffle pate, brandy, with a fried egg on top and spam. Wife: Have you got anything without spam? Waitress: Well, there's spam egg sausage and spam, that's not got much spam in it. Wife: I don't want ANY spam! Man: Why can't she have egg bacon spam and sausage? Wife: THAT'S got spam in it! Man: Hasn't got as much spam in it as spam egg sausage and spam, has it? Vikings: Spam spam spam spam... (Crescendo through next few lines...) Wife: Could you do the egg bacon spam and sausage without the spam then? Waitress: Urgghh! Wife: What do you mean 'Urgghh'? I don't like spam! Vikings: Lovely spam! Wonderful spam! Waitress: Shut up! Vikings: Lovely spam! Wonderful spam! Waitress: Shut up! (Vikings stop) Bloody Vikings! You can't have egg bacon spam and sausage without the spam. Wife: I don't like spam! Man: Sshh, dear, don't cause a fuss. I'll have your spam. I love it. I'm having spam spam spam spam spam spam spam baked beans spam spam spam and spam! Vikings: Spam spam spam spam. Lovely spam! Wonderful spam! Waitress: Shut up!! Baked beans are off. Man: Well could I have her spam instead of the baked beans then? Waitress: You mean spam spam spam spam spam spam... (but it is too late and the Vikings drown her words) Vikings: (Singing elaborately...) Spam spam spam spam. Lovely spam! Wonderful spam! Spam spa-a-a-a-a-am spam spa-a-a-a-a-am spam. Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Spam spam spam spam! I'm Michael Berger and I approved this message. |

Are we wasting our time crunching some of these WU's...???
(Message 5246)
Posted 19 Nov 2004 by Michael Berger Post: Footnote: The term identical value has nothing to with credits or matching values of credits. It refers to the end result of the calculations of the WU. This end result, whatever it may be, is not made available for the participants to view. |

It appears that your devotion to study hasn't endowed you with any real wisdom. Oh, and by the way, could we have a little more attitude please. |

Official Word on no more Work Units...!!!!
(Message 5100)
Posted 11 Nov 2004 by Michael Berger Post: Scott, Cheating may have been a poor choice of words, unethical may be a better one. Nonetheless, merging hosts serves no other purpose than to create artificial totals in respect to the host ID’s performance. It does not, however, change the participants total. When Boinc or Sixtrack crashed on my host ID 1323 a new host ID 12927 was created. I merged those two hosts and the sum of the credits remained the same because they (1323 and 12927) were and are the same computer. When merging two or more different and identical computers, the totals are added together to create an inflated grand total. So PoorBoy’s story is, at best, inaccurate. Now, I see that ric has joined the league as well. |

Posted 11 Nov 2004 by Michael Berger Post: > Then Michael is categorically wrong. "Somehow got merged" isn't cheating. > Cheating is intentional. That doesn't seem to be the case with you. Michael's > comment was out of line. No Trane, you're wrong. The process required to merge identical hosts can't happen accidentally. You're telling parties on both sides of this issue that they're wrong, and that, my meddlesome friend, reeks of stupidity. The only comments out of line here are yours. |

Posted 11 Nov 2004 by Michael Berger Post: > @Michael Berger: Please explain exactly how merging hosts cheats. Merging > hosts does nothing but combine the totals of different IDs assigned to the > same host system. Overall credits done by the host remain the same, so there's > no list (of which I'm aware) to climb. Just because you're not aware of which list is effected doesn't make your statement true. Top Computers is the list I'm speaking of. Combining totals is cheating for it serves no other useful purpose. Just ask PoorBoy and PCZ, that's how they got to the top of the list! |
