2) Message boards : Number crunching : platform 'powerpc-pc-linux-gnu' application for my PS3 ? (Message 20245)

First, there is no PPC science-application for LHC and there probably will never be one (see other threads).
Does LHC@home need good floating point performace ?
Same as on the other projects, too. The application must complete rewritten to get the full performance of the PS3 SPEs. Rewriting the source is a lot of work...
Also other problem, LHC uses a special Fortran compiler which is only available at Windows and Linux. Other compilers produce different resutls, but LHC needs identical results.
Rewriting the source isn\'t what i am asking for !

And as I have installed Fedora 9 on my PS3, it should be possible to install a Cross-compiler on your computer for your Fortran to produce PPC ( without SPE ! ) code for all PPC Linux platforms.

Hi all,

finally I have succeeded in installing Fedora 9 ppc on my PS3, and installed BOINC with yum ... but all I get from the projects in which I am participating is that they don't have a application for my platform 'powerpc-pc-linux-gnu' :(

Can someone help me to get a platform 'powerpc-pc-linux-gnu' application for this project ?
I know that such a application would only use the PPC core (with Altivec) of my CELL CPU, but better 1 of 7 cores than 0 of 7 !

If someone can tell me how to compile a platform 'powerpc-pc-linux-gnu' for my PS3 myself, I could try this too, as in the long term I intend to optimize the sources for my PS3.

5) Message boards : Cafe LHC : Any news from Planetquest? (Message 19777)

I received an email a couple of days ago from Dr. Laurance Doyle, who is the President of PlanetQuest. Dr. Doyle wrote:

We have the eclipsing binary system classifier running very well, and are now interfacing the circum-binary planet discriminator with the the binary classifier. We'll soon be going straight onto the BOINC platform with this and at that time can release an alpha version of the Collaboratory. The beta should not be far behind with a ready number of testers interested in helping us, and we are shooting for this summer to release the beta test.

So the good news is that they are making progress and their software should be available before too much longer.

Even after LHC beeing operational, they will still need computing power to analyse the results from the collisions, or to tune their machinery for new experiments ... because each answered question leads to more questions and new theories :D

His entire theroy seems to be based on the 'fact' that the moon landings were fake, and this can easily be proved wrong.

Don't let these people wind you up.
To SUCH people you cant PROVE anything, as they wont believe you ... there is only ONE thing you can do:
Kill them before they get a chance to cause more harm than killing them would cause

sixtrack 4.64 crashes my computer too :(

I only have 1 minute of graphics mode until my screensaver goes to blank.
And usually BOINC is activ in the background all the time.

AGAIN a faulty version of sixtrack is crashing my computer by using all the CPU-time :(

As mentioned in my previous topic regarding sixtrack version 4.63, it seems to be a problem of the graphics, which occurs even if i set the time of the screensaver until it goes to blank to ZERO :(

Again this error has forced me to detach LHC@home so that i can at least support s@h

I use the 4.19 BOINIC client on a 200 MHz Pentium MMX with 192 MB RAM together with SETI@home & Einstein@home.
The other 2 projects have worked perfectly well with this software/hardware configuration until LHC@home got online again.
