Why is it that the projects find it so hard to estimate the completion time like they do.
==========

Sometimes the Project itself over estimates the time it will take to complete the WU's in an effort to slow down the amount of WU's 1 Host can download at one time ...

But I don't know if this is the case with the latest LHC WU's or not, I know I can remember some time ago over at the Seti Site they purposefully added time to the WU's to slow down the downloads ...

First off I'm using v4.44 on all my Computers, it has a lot of features I like & sooner or later everybody's going to have to go to the new versions...

I've let them sit there for 10-15 minutes, usually when these LHC WU's get to 100% they report immediately. This getting to 100% & sitting there for a long period of time has been a on going problem with certain LHC WU's since the Project began. When the Project first started out it was nothing for a WU to sit at 100% for hours on end & you would either have to restart the Client or just abort the WU.

If a WU sits there for more than a few minutes after it gets to 100% then something is wrong with either the WU or the BOINC Client. It simply is not the normal behavior for a WU to just sit at 100% for 10 or 15 minutes or even longer with no completion of the WU IMO ...

Something I've noticed with the new WU's is that they seem to like to hang a lot upon completion on all my computers, they just sit there saying 100% done & wont Upload & or Report. I have to stop & restart the client a lot to get them to Upload & Report & then start the next WU ... ???

I've got 1 right now that just refuses to completely finish & upload even though I've restarted it 4 times already, each time I restart it it resets to 2:28 min to go and then when it gets done it just sits there doing nothing ...

The ones I've been getting today are in the 3 1/2 to 4 hour range for my HT Computers running 2 at a time. So they've increased in length the last few days from 20 to 30 min's ... And all the WU's I've been getting are fairly new ones not reruns ... :)

I just noticed I must have received 38 LHC WU's Today, it must have took all of 5 min's to do them all ... What the heck were they about ... hehe ... :P

My Computers are pretty much just sitting here Idling & patiently waiting for more LHC WU's. I've given up on most of the other Projects. Pirates & BURP have no Work to send. Predictor seems to be having problems I don't care to get involved in.

CPDN has raked me over the coals the last few days with several thousand credits lost due to software changes & or server problems. So that only leaves Seti & Einstein & I don't want to get loaded up with their WU's & then have LHC release theirs. Then I would have to get rid of the Seti & Einstein WU's by some devious manner ... hahaha

Anyway my CPU's are getting a well deserved rest & running nice & cool for a change ... :P

You may be able to fix this more easily than that ...

Look in the client state XML file and look to see if the project name has been changed, if so, change it back. If there is more than one line in the scheduler list, delete all but the correct one. Restart BOINC ...

Yup, I figured that out after fixing a few of my PC's the hard way Paul, I did that on the rest of them and it seemed to work ...

Janus, it means BURP either re-names an Account like LHC to BURP & re-names the LHC WU's to BURP WU's even though they are still LHC WU's. Then when you finish the newly re-named WU's from LHC or whatever Project you can't report them properly because the BOINC Manager doesn't recognize them as LHC WU's anymore & you can't get Credit for them either...

Also when a call goes in for more LHC or Pirate WU's the call gets routed through the BURP Project instead so you can't get anymore work either, I saw this in the xml files. The call was going out for more Pirate WU's but it was showing the call going through to the BURP Site instead of the Pirates Site.

Pirates@Home will do the same thing from time to time to the other Projects you are attached to. Heck, LHC@Home was even doing it for awhile ...

My 1 computer is still all screwed up & has been for 3 days now because of it. This morning I started deleting everything pertaining to BOINC on that Computer & going through the Registry getting rid of everything for BOINC. Hopefully by doing this it will straighten itself out ...

Which CC version are you using? It may be, that you have an outdated BOINC client (versions prior to 4.41 have caused such problems).

All my problems began when I installed v4.44 on all my PC's, it started out with most of the Managers Freezing up after running a short while.

Then when I went back to v4.25 the Pirates, BURP & LHC Projects took turns taking over the other Accounts I was Attached to. I got it straightened out after 6 hr's of messing around with the xml files.

So far it hasn't happened again & I even re-installed v4.44 on just 1 PC this morning and it has run 5 hr's so far without freezing up ...

But the funny thing was as soon as I install the v4.44 the Pirates Project took over the LHC Account again, I fixed it right away & Pirates hasn't tried it again so far ... :/

I have just spent about the last 6 hours straightening out my Accounts on all my Computers because it seems BURP was on the attack again and taking over all of the other Project Accounts ...

I managed to get everything straightened out again by getting rid of everything in the xml files that pertained to BURP and detaching all my computers from BURP ...

Sorry to say I had some major loss of WU's though, 2 CPDN WU's with about 200 hr's each done on them and 5 or 6 Pirate WU's waiting to be done. But I did manage to save and Report 15 finished Pirate WU's on 1 PC after I got it fixed again ... :)

Yup, I tried 3 times restarting the v4.44 client and left it alone for awhile and each time I came back it was froze up on all my PC's ... Nice client version ... D'oh ... I finally just went back to v4.25 myself in order to restore some sanity to myself ... hehe

I like the new v4.44 version even better than the v4.43, my computers will get lot's of rest as I see it. For 1 you can't get any work because it won't Request any & 2 if the Manager happens to screw up and actually give you a little work it just freezes up after a bit anyway & stops running the WU's...

I went out to my Pole Barn for a few hours after I installed v4.44 on all my Computers & when I came back in the Manager on every one of my PC's was Froze up & wasn't running anything according to the Task Manager ...

But I guess I can look at the Bright Side, my Computers will last forever at this rate ... :/

One feature I would like to see implemented is to be able to select more than 1 WU at a time to Suspend or Abort ...

I know you can just Suspend the whole Project which will Suspend all the WU's for that Project you have at that time but what I'm talking about is say you have 30 LHC WU's on 1 computer & want to just Suspend 10 or 15 of them at 1 time instead of having to Suspend each one individually ...

@ Ric, exactly, just let me crunch & don't back me into a corner with some Manager thats overly restrictive & demanding on what, when, & which WU's I crunch ...
