Yea, thanks for getting the admins involved so this can be straightened out....

'Bout gave me damn heart failure this morning seeing I had no team affiliation with LHC....

Yes.

Markku Degerholm
LHC@home admin

*sigh*.....I warned people months ago that this might happen (new ppl posting anything, anywhere because there's no structure to the forum posting rules), but did anyone listen???

And yes, welcome to the newest members of our quickly growing ranks....enjoy the ride and please don't complain too much the next time there's no work for a month.... :/ LOL

Thanks for the small update Markku....

I as well tend to favor LHC above all the other BOINC Projects and would prefer to run it as continuously as I do Seti, but CERN sure doesn't make it easy.

Markku: Please go and crack the whip on those hamsters..err... I mean Scientists and get them to spin us some new work from their little spinning wheels please.

It was weird....one minute I'm happily crunching some seti then....BAM they just started showing up on my slowest machine (AMD XP2100, 768MB RAM)...almost as if CERN somehow targeted it specifically.....Muhawahawaha!!!! (LOL)

My faster P4's are not receiving anything, even after repeatedly updating the client or resetting the project

One of my machines (the slowest one) received 11 of these strange looking work units:

w1_lhc.new_err_2004_bb_err__1__64.1_59.11__10_12__5__54_1_sixvf_boinc78_1
w1_lhc.new_err_2004_bb_err__1__64.1_59.11__10_12__5__72_1_sixvf_boinc80_3

The rest have various names but they all look similar.

These are using SixTrack 4.67 and are 100k turn from what I can gather.

Do these few drops of work to a thirsty man in the desert of no work from LHC mean good times are once again around the corner?

Or will it be business as usual, and when these are gone, who knows when the next batch will show?

Hmmmmm time will tell I guess, just happy to have something LHC related to finally do.... ;)

Patience please.

I still have about 30 of them across all my machines.

I'm getting through them as fast as I can.

I've been using 4.43 ever since Berkeley made it their "recommended" version, and I have received about 20 of the '1-off' work units per machine in the last few days.

It works for me...now all we need are MANY WU'S to test it with.... *just to make sure it works* LOL :)

Didn't Markku mention something about them resending some WU's to finish up a test a few days ago??

Hopefully once all these one-off 'straggler' work units are returned that we will be (back?) on track for the Million WU that we've heard so much about..

I've received about 20 WU's per machine in the last 12 hours all 100,000 turn.

From today's front page:

QUOTE - "Good News: The latest run has finished successfully. Two of the five studies we also ran locally. The studies run on LHC@home are 100% identical to the control studies. Some new scripts have been developed which hopefully should increase the speed and ease of use of the job submission. Finally we are planning a big study of the beam to beam effect, hopefully starting next week."

Can one infer from this news that the current job submission process is somehow responsible for the less then steady amount of work we've received over the last several months, and that with a 'big study' hopefully coming next weeek that more work (1 million new WU's?) may be available then??

The project success rate speaks volumes for the dedication of everyone involved, and "the powers that be" should take a bow and be recognized for their efforts to understand better the particle physics science at the heart of what we all do here....

Bravo!!

I can only speak for myself, but I flamed no one. I thought you had missed the post. Nothing more or less then that.

Why are you so quick to jump to a wrong conclusion?

I guess with all the strong differences of opinion that are being offered about the direction these forums "might/should/should not" be heading, I guess that tempers are a bit short for some?? Who knows.

There was no offense meant.

We are currently finishing "tail" of current study, that is, resubmitting work until every workunit has been processed.

After that there will be a short break (week or so) and then about one million new workunits (which makes about five million results) will be submitted.
