Whoa! 30K or so work units, and I didn't even get one.

Looks like my computer is a little slow on the draw!

they were not even peanuts... 15 min runtime on a 2.6 GHz P4 per WU....

I'm getting really upset about all of this now.

merging will not solve your problem.

please do some searching in the threads. there are multiple threads where this issue is mentioned and the solution given.

49 copies of host #2 in 24 hours ... merged them all, but there has to be a fix for this somewhere!!

sysfried was indeed a bit harsh.

But we are overstelped with people asking about the stats problem without even trying to read the top 10 threads.
And in this case its the '/stats/ empty' thread (although there are much much much much more) where you can find everyting about it

now we have to scan them first before we can try to process them
i wonder how many photos you need to get all the xml.......

I have the photos which I will get up hopefully before Xmas. The press people are vaguely aware of the project but they know little other than that we will be in charge of it soon.

Photos of the new servers, or of the new admins?

hmm yes. then we have all those threads about 'i have lost a project. how come?'

maybe then a /dont_allow_posting_in_forum <user>

lol

/deattach_project <user>

!
That would be.. crazy :)

Oh cmon we're just joking :) By the way, dont_allow_posting_in_forum already exists for moderators. It's called "banish author".

/me keep his fingers crossed

Any news on the stats issue? I know, I know, not many admins and ppl around for the project, but it's just hard to have some work units again after a long, long time, but then no stats export to show them.

ok
but that was only for 1 day
what would you do when that is happening everyday for oh say 2 months in a row.

then you're happy to see a bus once in a while. You will thank him for comming but you will be asking the driver who the hell you have to speak to make see a bus every day.

Then you hear that the company has taken a smart move and outsourced the service to a third party. You think he, sounds good. But what happens next... the same old story. The bus is stil not arriving after a few weeks.

yeah
well. ik know ... but its taking so long
And worse, not a word from someone about when, how or when we can expect to see some improvements.
And sure, someone is doing some fixing but as far as i can see only when something is crashing.
Its so frustrating to see a good project as LHC suffer like this.

I share the feeling of frustration. But we are not going to get good service from the incoming people if the first thing they see is a lot of complaints about how long they took to get here, and about stuff that happened before they were in post.

I stood in the rain for two hours waitng for a bus once, on an "every 20 mins" service. Gave the driver a right mouthful when he finally came. He then told me it was his day off - there was some crisis at the depot and he'd been called in at short notice and here was me bXXXXXXing him for his efforts. My response had been entirely understandable but also totally unhelpful.

does any1 has an email address of some1 at QMUL. Lets see if we can wake them up

Can I suggest that would not be tactful.

They are clearly watching the server as best they can. Someone (at QMC or at CERN) sorted out the database problem last night for example. When someone is properly in post, and when people at QMC have completed the move, I am sure we will get more attention. We certainly will if we get someone in post of the quality of Chrulle.

In the meantime, quite properly IMO, /stats/ is not at the top of their "urgent" queue and is not something we should expect to be done by an interim caretaker.

So I was right then its not QMC at all its QMUL (Queen Mary University of London)

it would be nice if they (lhc or qmc) could give a statement when this will happen.
Because at the moment it seems like the hole project is dead.
I don't mind have to wait, but it will be nice to receive some info now and then. Even if it is that there is nothing new to say.

42 days 21:31:15 old now :( I don't think anyone is there to hear our pleas :(

That is right, I don't think anyone will be able to do anything about this now until QMC have taken over. Chrulle thought he'd fixed it, and if it was beyond Chrulle then it is not something that an interim admin is going to want to take on for fear of breaking it worse.

Hopefully someone will remember to bump this thread again when QMC are in post as admins

i think this discussion will never end
because there is always some1 who thinks its unfair whatever the solution is.

personally i think its fair if i get all the wu's and the rest of you can get the leftovers, but i suspect that i'm in the minority about this
:)

would a truckload of WU's solve your problem / end the discussion?

My wild guess is that the 8000 WU's that were out, were a test run after the system was moved to new hardware.... Don't bother, I'm sure that there will be work...

Hey, I just turned 32 today. That gives me at least another 32 years of time to wait for LHC or CERN WU's... ;-)

the msgboard is not complaining.
only one single member is.
i personally have no problem with your sig and i agree that lying to your kids about this stuff is somewhat weird.

Ladyzguy: please could you modify your sig to remove the four-letter word. I've just had to explain your epithet to my 4yo boy, with the caveat that he's not to use the word. The justification for this was that you're probably not a very nice person. I'm sure that's not true, so please don't make me lie again.

Thanks

Look don't blame me for you lying to your kid... That's just totally rediculous . All you had to do was ask me to remove it because it was offensive to you, but to state that you had to lie to your kid because of me is absurd and I resent that. And you further show how rediculous it is by stating to him "that I'm probably not a very nice person" You don't know anything about me.

I'm beginning to think you all here are a bunch of whining idiots. We all are supposed to be adults, (generally speaking) but lets see now, you posters don't like the way I post on the boards here, when all I was doing was trying to let the original poster of this thread know he was not the only one who was having issues with the WU's (or lack therof) and now my sig is offensive to your 4 year old, so I must change it. How you explain life's mysteries to your kids is your business just don't blame me for what I'm sure is not the first time nor probably the last time he/she will be exposed to what's in it. Jeeze you guys need to get a real life. Once again of all the boards I'm subscribed to, this one takes the cake....

(by the way that sig line is the same one I use on all my boards and this is the only place that's ever complained about it)
