LHCb Application :
Low CPU usage
(Message 28105)
Posted 13 Dec 2016 by Sunny129 Post: LHCb have at least 50% failure rate for me too. I have to wonder why this is the case for you when, for me, the failure rate is 100%. I mean if most (virtually all) LHCb errors are due to the fact that there are no simulation jobs waiting to be executed at that particular moment in time (and the problem therefore truly is a server-side issue, not a host issue), then everyone should be experiencing almost identical failure rates regardless of the sizes of their DC farms...and yet that's not the case. |

Exit init failure
(Message 28089)
Posted 9 Dec 2016 by Sunny129 Post: This is what I see in my stderr output when I get the "206 (0x000000CE) EXIT_INIT_FAILURE" error: 2016-12-08 23:53:39 (6752): Guest Log: [INFO] LHCb application starting. Check log files. So basically this is not a host problem, but rather just a result of a host looking for a certain type of when its not available server-side? It still seems strange that every one of my LHCb tasks has erred out this way for several days straight now. According to the server status page, LHCb tasks are available...perhaps that's why Toby suggested that this is a communications issue and not the server actually being out of LHCb work? |

CERN AFS problems

Posted 11 Oct 2014 by Sunny129 Post: ^ well it looks like that failed SETI@Home upload was just a glitch b/c the file uploaded without a problem 2 minutes after the first attempt. regarding LHC@Home, i'm relieved that i'm not the only one getting the "LHC@home 1.0 | Server can't open log file (../log_boinc05/scheduler.log)" message...i.e. glad its a server issue and not an issue with my particular host. |

Can't get tasks...
(Message 26188)
Posted 24 Jan 2014 by Sunny129 Post: yup, ~12,000 tasks "ready to send" the last time i looked yesterday...now its up to ~37,000...and i haven't gotten a single new task since the problems started. i suppose that's better than getting work w/ a 100% inconclusive rate. i'm standing by in the mean time... |

Can't get tasks...
(Message 26168)
Posted 23 Jan 2014 by Sunny129 Post: A few reasons for that. i don't think this is the issue considering the number of "tasks ready to send" continues to grow...not to mention that the server can't distribute ~12,000 tasks in only 15-20 minutes. They could be assigned to a particular OS. eg. they might be for Linux or Mac only so Windows computers will not get any work even though available tasks are still showing. is there a BOINC event log entry specific to this, b/c the only type of event log entry i'm seeing is: 1/23/2014 8:59:41 AM | LHC@home 1.0 | Requesting new tasks for CPU 1/23/2014 8:59:43 AM | LHC@home 1.0 | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 1/23/2014 8:59:43 AM | LHC@home 1.0 | No tasks sent 10 Min. ago I had the same prob! then all of a sudden I began to get new WU. @ 32 per download for a total of 246 in about 5 min. Now I'm back to ( no tasks sent) Go figure! The server stats still look the same. Pick what kind of hardware do you have that would allow you to DL 246 tasks before you reach your max allowed cache (in only 5 minutes no less)?...a quad socket mobo w/ 8-core/16-thread CPUs? or is it another server hiccup that allowed you to DL several times the amount of your max allowed cache? |

Posted 22 Jan 2014 by Sunny129 Post: 1/22/2014 11:51:26 AM | LHC@home 1.0 | Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance seems like standard maintenance to me...wonder why others are getting the "Server can't open log file (../log_boinc05/scheduler.log)" message instead... |

(Message 25434)
Posted 14 Feb 2013 by Sunny129 Post: don't get too excited yet. remember, only 5 days ago Eric said that we might not see new work for a whole week or two. now perhaps he got his analysis done early and tasks are back. then again, it could just be a short injection of test tasks again. i wouldn't be surprised if the "ready to send" queue on the server runs dry again before we start seeing new tasks on a regular basis again... |

Posted 18 Dec 2012 by Sunny129 Post: no, work has not really been generated regularly for almost a month now. there are quite a few hosts out there w/ older CPUs, which is why the total number of "tasks in progress" dwindles so slowly. there was a test run of tens of thousands of tasks that went out a week or two ago, but those got snatched up before any of my hosts noticed. the current "tasks in progress" are the remainder of that test run. who knows when another batch of test units will get sent out, let alone when the problem will get fixed. in the mean time, i'm crunching Einstein@Home on the CPU and just waiting for LHC work to become available... |
