The old screensaver had particles in motion with a progress bar and a moving logo to prevent screen burn in. I liked the various colour themes.

LHC will deliver data from the LHCB experiment but I dont know if they have already formulated some results. Yes.. DATA.. not just theories. It\'s exciting times for physics.

(Message 21706) Posted 3 Dec 2009 by Alex Post: Just installed q9650 cpu, but notice while using even a q6600 cpu that in both cases core \"0\" is about 6c hotter than other cores while using Win 7 64bit. Does anybody know why that happens? On a 32bit system Quad CPU\'s seem to be more equal. I\'d guess that the first processor is running the kernel, which then splits tasks to the other processors.

You then place the two black holes next to a water tank, and then the gravity waves from the black holes generate waves in the water tank, then you just harvest wave energy from the moving water.

All it says is \\\"communication deferred.\\\" I\\\'ve tried all sorts of updates, etc. Einstein and seti work fine. What\\\'s up? The boinc client slows down its requests to the server when there is no work. In the early days of Boinc being used on the Seti@home servers clients that would normally contact the server once every 8 hours for a work unit would suddenly start hammering the Seti server repeately for hours on end which caused the network switches to be overloaded with traffic. Having the \'deferred\' requests avoids hammering the server when there are no work units available. The LHC project has had very few work units for the last few months, mostly because all the magnets are aligned, and their contols are tuned, so there really isn\'t much to simulate these days unless they want to try out a change to the operation of the collider.

It was discussed some time ago in this thread Also discussed in Nov 2004. http://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=1057#5362 The 16 trillion floating point operations per second is still impressive even with today\'s multi core pc\'s. I never did get around to getting one and putting linux on it.
