1) Message boards : Sixtrack Application : where are the tasks? (Message 44390)

This sixtrack batch seems big and consistant....

I wonder what are we computing now. HL-LHC tasks? FCC tasks? It's been a long time since we had such a long batch.

Now I have 2 WUs that are always in the 'uploading' stage, no matter what I do.

When my WUs reach 100% they change their status to WaitR (Waiting to Run) and simply stay there. Only when I suspend all other projects, they finish and are uploaded.
5) Message boards : Theory Application : Problem installing native theory app (Message 44004)
Posted 26 Dec 2020 by Profile yo2013
Post:
I deleted /sbin/create-boinc-cgroup and /etc/systemd/system/boinc-client.service and this time BOINC started and I obtained a couple of Theory workunits.

Since this machine runs 24/7 there should not be much problem not having suspend/resume in the application.
6) Message boards : Theory Application : Problem installing native theory app (Message 44003)

Post:
I tried to install the native theory app following the instructions here:

https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/forum_thread.php?id=4971

I could install CVMFS with no problems and it's running ok, but when running the last instructions:

sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl restart boinc-client

boinc-client fails to restart, with the message:

Job for boinc-client.service failed because the control process exited with error code.
See "systemctl status boinc-client.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

"systemctl status boinc-client.service" gives:

Does ATLAS native need virtualization option enabled in the BIOS? I never ran vbox apps because my BIOS don't have it. Does the native app require it too? I searched in the native app guides but didn't find any mention.

Can you add more information in the description of each task? For example, a link to the homepage of the research team that submited the task would be nice. That way we would know what we are computing.

19) Message boards : Cafe LHC : New project launched to explore Higgs boson data (Message 27012)

Post:
The Zooniverse project team has launched a citizen scientists initiative to search through ATLAS data. Here is their introduction:

Hey there,
Today we launched our latest citizen science project, and it's a real beauty!

On Higgs Hunters we need you to look through data from the ATLAS experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider, where protons are smashed together at one billion kilometres per hour in order to create new particles and give us a better understanding of the building blocks that make up our Universe.

Specifically we are asking you to search through roughly 90,000 images from the ATLAS detector for tiny sub-atomic explosions caused when a Higgs boson 'dies', which some scientists think could generate a new kind of particle, previously undetected.

Begin your search for new and exciting particles now at http://www.higgshunters.org

Thanks for your continued help and support,

Grant & the Zooniverse Team
20) Message boards : Cafe LHC : CERN makes public first data of LHC experiments (Message 27005)
Posted 21 Nov 2014 by Profile yo2013
Post:
CERN today launched its Open Data Portal where data from real collision events, produced by experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will for the first time be made openly available to all. It is expected that these data will be of high value for the research community, and also be used for education purposes.
