1) Message boards : Sixtrack Application : Sixtrack BOINC application on track to be ported to GPUs? (Message 47838)

Post:
It's been a while since I've run them using the VM sorry. I'll have to revist that and let you know.
Essentially they got stuck. They would run for 12, 14+hrs and go nowhere. I ended up aborting them if it went longer than 10hrs from memory.
It was a real waste of power for me and hence I moved on.
I'm not a technical person. I like things that just work... ie - sixtrack with no VM.

I'll revisit the work in the near future & let you know specific wu's when it happens :)

Glad to see a great supply of sixtrack work atm. I'm still expecting it to dry up quickly though unfortunately.

xtrack sounds interesting.
I like sixtrack work but the projects can't keep enough wu's sent to me.
I don't run Linux so I have to use a VM to run the ATLAS tasks and they are a bit hit & miss. I can have wu's stuck for hours which need to be aborted and are a huge waste of my time & electricity so I try to avoid the VM/ATLAS work unfortunately.
Keen to see how xtrack unfolds.

Why don't people just join a REAL team instead of Gridcoin!
I have no sympathy for anyone who's a part of Gridcoin and it isn't working. BOINC should be "volunteer computing", not paid :/

I know this has been talked about before but why isn't there a sixtrack badge?
Can't be that hard can it to add one more badge? We all love badges :D

It's a shame isn't it Dingo. That post was from 2017!
I don't see why it's so hard to have a sixtrack badge?? SURELY it can't be that hard?

Hi maeax,

Yeah I'm aware of using the virtual box but I've chosen not to use it. Probably more so due to a lack of understanding what it would mean using a virtual box.
I'm happy to just crunch 6 track work.....when you can get it.

I like this project but its frustrating trying to improve your rank when it seems near impossible to get a constant supply of 6track WU's.

Shame there's no badge system for sixtrack either.

I've ceased crunching for the time being. I still have 225 WU's pending and 170 inconclusive.
Will they eventually get processed?

Appreciate all your efforts in trying to solve this. I'm a bit of a layman sorry when it comes to the technical talk regarding all this...should I stop crunching sixtrack work?
I have 175 invalid WU's. Will I eventually get the credit or am I wasting time, power etc when I could crunch another project until resolved?

You don't have any invalids tasks, only valid ones and those that are currently inconclusive. Admins can easily trigger revalidation of all tasks as soon as they have the old validator in place.

I am sure you will get credits but a bit patience is needed for the moment.

Hi Juha,

Thanks for the clarification. I think you misunderstood me though. I have plenty of patience but the WU's on my old Q9550 are taking around 12 hrs to complete. That would have been a lot of wasted time if it was all for nought.

I crunch more than just LHC ;)

HIGHLY IMPORTANT
It looks as if my attempted fix is creating too many problems, MEA CULPA.
I expect we shall shortly withdraw it and return to the previous version of
the sixtrack_validator. Sorry for the hassle and I shall try and answer as many
of your posts to this thread as possible. The side effect seems to be I/we are
now NOT validating when we should, certainly my fault.

We shall return to a state where we will validate invalid empty results, but in this
case the attempted Cure is Worse than the Disease. ( I tried.)

Hope to try again soon. Eric.

I only crunch 6track btw. No VB.

Kind regards

I really want to crunch LHC but it's rather annoying running out of sixtrack work all the time.

Thank you
