Nevermind, it just happened on that machine too.

I'm still seeing this with BOINC 4.45 and Sixtrack 4.67 on a Windows XP SP2 GenuineIntel x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 6 797MHz. (I haven't seen it yet on my other computer, where the only difference is that it's Stepping 10 997Mhz). When I kill Sixtrack from the task manager, my computer is fine, but it trashes the WU. I detached from the project for now with this host because I seem to just be wasting CPU time and trashing WUs. Below are the last LHC messages I got. Any insight?

See? You've said something unproductive and offending. Now I will ignore you, not threaten to quit the project. It's that simple.

Even as a matter of principle, the big picture remains the same. LHC is for science, not group rivalries, credit systems, or petty quarrels. I'm not saying it's right to spam the team invite thread; I'm just saying you would unjustly punish LHC for quitting because of it. Even as an idle threat, other people may see that and think they should quit the project whenever they have a problem with another user. My entire point is that that post, and your conveyed intentions are not good for LHC. There are better ways to accomplish what has been done.

I think you're forgetting the big picture here. This isn't about who can get the most credits or which team is doing best (though it may be fun to brag occasionally). All the credit system is for is to attract more people who invest more of their time into their projects, but LHC doesn't really care which team crunches their units. My team of one is doing just fine, and my results wouldn't improve by joining the top group, or by having all the members of the top group join mine. If you don't like what some post on the messages boards, don't frequent the message boards. You're punishing the wrong party by detaching from LHC... we're here to do science, afterall.

7) Message boards : Number crunching : Computation error on WU (Message 4700)

Post:
I'm running
BOINC 4.13
GenuineIntel 997MHz Pentium
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.01.2600.00)

4 of my last 10 WUs came back with a computation error similar to this:

Unrecoverable error for result v64lhc1000prosix-27s10_12551.21_1_sixvf_30583_3 (exit code -1073741819(0xc0000005)

2 of my last 8 SETI workunits generated similar errors. I'm also running the classic version of Climate prediction, and I'm still attached to Predictor, even though they've been out of order for over a month now.

Am I doing more harm than good staying on this project? Should I detach?

Thanks,
Jason
