22) Message boards : Number crunching : Strange Short WU (Message 22894)
Posted 5 Sep 2011 by Michael Karlinsky
Post:

Is there any explanation or is it just an accident?

If still valid, the explanation goes as follows: We simulate the particle trajectories around the LHC ring. If the WU finishes early, this just means that the particle "hit the wall" -- this is obviously not desired. (Probably the initial conditions were wrong.)

Nethertheless this info is important, so you get credit. But it obviously does not make sense to continue the WU.

Hope that helps (and is somewhat correct and understandable)

Hi all.

I got two results from the same WU. They were crunced on the same host, but did not validate. This is kind of strange.

See this WU: http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/workunit.php?wuid=7012

How did you sign up?

Via \"create account\" web-page or via BOINC client \"attach wizard\"?

If you were using BOINC no further action is required. Just wait for work, see thread Please note: this project rarely has work
