O.o You sure having alot WUs in progress. Maybe you have other WUs on other PC?

EDIT: Ingore me, Kesh has responded with better info.

First check that you allowed the project to get new works on task and have it enabled to access to network. Coz that's the only thing able to stop it from getting new work

To check: Bring up BONIV client click on the registered project and on the left side there "Task" and see if you have "Allow New Works".

Check wheather it connected to network: Right click on "B" icon on the taskbar. (Near the clock) Make sure "Disable BONIC Network Access" is not ticked.

@Robert Laughlin

Norton is a computer security vendor, also known as Symantec. visit www.norton.com

The security programs doesnt create improper alerts. But yet it does slow down loading OS as there's more Dynamic Link Libery and AV programs to load. For gaming, i only know disabling anti-virus can speed up Unreal Engine 2 used for certain games. Last, I never sees a computer crashed unexpectly (with WindowXP), unless there's hardware or driver conflic. Still, Norton has protected my PC from quite lot of theats. :)

There's already a story said Linux process slower. As it shown in measured floating points, so i recommend stick to WindowXP ;)
Story~~ http://lhcathome.cern.ch/forum_thread.php?id=1700

For my PC security i use Norton Internet Security - Anti Spyware Edition. Real-time in memory virus/spyware/adware detector. personal firewall, outbreak alert, intrusion detection, privacy control, anti-virus and anti-spam. Yet it didn't caused any problem lately. It does launched virus scanning automaticly every friday night but i stop it everytimes to prevent corrupt process data or slowing process down.

Im talking "crazy" about the first Dimmerjas post, isnt that stupid/waste? There's nothing to do with you. And third-party thingy is for someone who wants to read. Those are not the things are pointed at you.

Clarify enough?

>>If you're going to call me crazy, come back with something better then that, huh? As it stands, it looks like you just did not read or understand what I said and did a typical knee-JERK response.

So want me to call you a JERK. fine

If OC works than is fine, but note that there's high chance to corrupt the data packets during processing. So best if you can "leave it alone" with no important background running programs (reserve all resources to BONIC client). Oh yea, I do OC my PC, with only added 1Mhz in FSB lol .. Not to memtion, there's also good change to build a very stable overclocked machines. I heard Asus mainboard has the quality of stable for overclockers.

Last thing, the main objective for me is to finished WUs as fast as my PC could. Coz i want to see how will this LHC work in later year 2007. Any delay will not be appreciated (for me) // Mostly same objective as 5th.rider

it´s a overclocked machine - but quit stable - no problems til now (athlon64 2Ghz@2,6 right now, still trying to reach 2.8 for comparing with my 2.8 P4 - altough the amd is already much much faster).
Thx for your fast help!
5th.rider

I tried to overclock FSB from 166Mhz to 181Mhz (2500+ to 3200+) But the computing power is the same. Also for my overheating problem i use Thread Master and work very well.. which reserved some CPU resource for me access on some websites.

I set Thread Master to use 80% CPU power to process WUs. And finished WU in the same time as the 100% CPU in use mode. Good thing is, it reduced the heat without slowing process!

For full test of P4 and Athlon64 performance. Suspend the WU processing. Go to Client, File -> Run Benchmark. And view the mill-flops via your account. As i know, my AthlonXP 2500+ beats some Pentium 4 3.2Ghz .. woohoo~!

The WU said "Client Error", mean your client miss calculated some data, your PC might doing something else harsh for CPU scrambled the process data. This happens to high overclocked CPUs as well.

Guys, think there's also something to do with the mainboard chipset. I figured some users using same CPU as mine but generated more/less million flops/sec. Think that's something to do with the "CPU-power"?

Ah thanks, now i do think is fine for my HD to run. My HD is about 2-3 years old (Western Digital 40GB). But yet i heard other said is even fine for running non-stop for a whole year. :)

Thanks alot. Really wish to see how will LHC project will work in final!

lol that's crazy. and i dont see a point of download tons of works and unable finish in time. best for all is to have thier modem connect to internet all time and have thier PC run for 24hours. the client would download new work, if the recent running work is about 30-50% done. for overheated CPU user, just use Thread Master. a nice program wont decrease the process speed and nicely reduced CPU speed.

Yet, thread master is for user who had enough knowledge of window registry.

My recent HD is quite old and i think HD motor would die after running non-stop for too long. On other hand i found an USB Storage device (USB2.0 256MB), which gave me an idea of install BOINC into the USB device, so the mainboard should save the progess into the device without access the HD. But do you think this is possible?

Thanks
