1) Message boards : Number crunching : New work?? Sort of...... (Message 8149)

I got more than 35 units, all lasted no more than 45 seconds each. Were processed, sent back and nothing appears in my results, someone should do something about this!

It seems they are lost in the middle of nowhere. What a pity!!

I'll probable have to drop the project. And believe me I am patient, but some things go beyond all limits.

The new version 4.45 on BOINC CC is working perfectly ok (that is after you let it stay by itself after 5 days) and then it takes all the process without your having to worry about it.

What I do worry about - and I am patient - is that after one complete month there have been no announcements in the front page regarding any news and/or messages. Once was said, that it does not cost a penny to have some one put a note over there informing about the subject. Are we advancing?, are we just stucked somewhere? Well let us know. If things continue this way I'll just think about it twice before continueing with LHC.

Respectfully said. Truly yours.

Got it!! - from both of you sysfried and Kenneth Larsen and I agree, so forget it, I will not put any more of these messages, just the ones truly interesting.

Let's all go help (I dislike crunch) the other projects, while LHC gets back to us!

Regards. No problem - no offense at all!

Sometimes, even old workunits, do make sense... at least to keep those anxious of crunching units. But I agree, if you are not going to obtain anything positive from it, there is no sense in doing it.

Now, I also agree that everybody is entitled to have vacations. Good for them!!
However... do we actually depend on one man being on vacation?

One more thing, the front page should give us some more info than the one being published, even if it is only to say "Guys, no more work for two weeks", but then we will know and take it easy.

Please, do not misunderstand my words, being a non-english speaking guy I hope I make myself understood. So this is what I think you call - constructive criticism.

Regards from Spain

Yes I got two, but they just go in 6 minutes and presto!! that's it!

Better to know we are testing something, than not receiving anything.

Well... mmciastro said: I'd like to think I'm a patient man, a reasonable man, a man of reflection. I'd still like some news, some predictions, some kinda update.

Well, I am also patient, I do give my time for free without asking, it is true that if I do not like it I can always quit, but I refuse to think that these other people (for whom we are putting our efforts) can not be a little more polite and once in a while give us a short explanation of what is going on.

Do you want us to stay out for a couple of weeks?? Say so!!
You are experiencing trouble and feel we will not understand?? Try us!!
You might be surprissed!!

We are your friends, we do want to help, in our own way. How about you?

Sincerely and respectfully

It is quite curious but see what happened with the new units received today:

As you may see, the unit started at 18:31:41 and it was paused at 18:31:44

This to me just looks real strange!! It has not gone back to the unit, and it is neither in CPDN now - crunching E@H.

I have initiated a thread in the Seti@home message boards on this theme of Astropulse and/or SETI.

Are we going to collide units ... sorry ... crunch for LHC soon?

12) Message boards : Number crunching : Data updating in the BOINC Manager (Message 6558)
Posted 14 Mar 2005 by Profile Liberto [Valencia]
Post:
I have noticed that the Project's total credit column in the Boinc Mgr, is not updating even if connection succeeded, unless you are given a new unit to process.

I am using a P4 - 2.66 GHz with 512 kbRAM and WXP sp 2. When B Manager contacts LHC, the following happens:
14/03/2005 8:29:01|LHC@home|Sending request to scheduler: http://lhcathome-sched1.cern.ch/scheduler/cgi
14/03/2005 8:29:02|LHC@home|Scheduler RPC to http://lhcathome-sched1.cern.ch/scheduler/cgi succeeded
14/03/2005 8:29:02|LHC@home|Message from server: No work available
14/03/2005 8:29:02|LHC@home|No work from project
14/03/2005 8:29:02|LHC@home|Deferring communication with project for 3 hours, 51 minutes, and 52 seconds

Actually the contact has been ok, but the project update does not function, as the total credit stays at the figure of last time when a unit was received. Now I am shown with 2,715.94 credits, but in my account page, it has been 3 days now, which is showing 2,792.83
In other projects, it works automatically and even if no units are received, the total credit of the account is updated instantaneously. Can something be done to modify this?

You are very correct!! The problem is it all started way down in the messages line when we run out of LHC units and kinda continued engaging ourselves into the SETI/AP discussion.

Yes, perhaps we should all transfer our thoughts to the SETI message boards.

By the way, any new news on LHC having more units?
Have you finished debugging? ;-)

Well, they should be a little bit more open minded and realize that Astropulse and SETI are two different things. Maybe if they do not want to accept that, they will end up with plenty of people dismissing the SETI project.

To me personally it would be a lack of respect to those that have participated in the initial steps of Astropulse and that if we made our interest for it, was for Astropulse, not for Seti to be intermixed with it.

It is also too bad by the way, that we are running so soon out of work, here in LHC!!

Yes, sure, I'm happy! But I will be happier when we start getting the first units - and do not forget that most of us are already running the CC 4.16 as a minimum. Unless these guys at Einstein give us another newer version ;-)

I think that after the message on the front page:
LHC@Home 2nd status report announced. And looking into what is mentioned over there I feel that the users of your project deserve a little bit of more attention.

All we are asking - or at least I am - is to get some news from the project officials so as to know if we just better forget about it or what,

It is already mid-January, the Huygens got to Titn and we are all very excited but it surprises me that the kindness and politeness had in the past by the LHC group has now gone down the drain. A few words on the front page would be appreciated.
