This project does not have work at the moment, but stay tuned. there might be something in the pipelines for the coming weeks.
I can't wait myself for new work; LHC has the least meaningful, but the most beautiful screensaver of all BOINC projects.

congrats also from my side for making that transition. It's been quite a while since I had some LHC wus to crunch, so lets hope that the communication as well as work will soon flow again.

Why all this drama? Why not simply leave your hosts attached, and receive work if and when it becomes available? It doesn't hurt you to have your machines pinging LHC once in a while for work. Why must everyone act as if LHC is out to offend them personally?

As much as I would love to participate in the project, I want to know that my participation in said project is appreciated.

The only form of appreciation I need is just to have my stats exported.

If you can't do that, you don't appreciate my participation, and I no longer have a desire to participate in the project.

End of line.

for me it's not only and not primarily a matter of stats, but I want to know what is going on, what I crunch for and what the progress is. If I cant get that information, I don't want to crunch for a project, so there is no need in keeping my pc attached. The temporary nature of LHC as such is thus not the problem for me, since I also crunch for SIMAP. But the lack of info and non-reaction to all forum discussions is the source of my decision to stay away for some time.

I keep watching these pages nearly everyday, but since I am going to cut down on this, LHC will also have a lack of my attention.

Releasing some wus without stating what happens, not watching the boards etc. is a bad joke. All other projects encounter problems too (see Seti and Einstein recently), but they try to keep the communication up. LHC is a mess under the new moderators, that's sad but a reality. And being realistic has nothing to do with the love for this project. I joined early, love this screensaver and the idea of the project, but the way we are treated is beyond my level of tolerance. We supply crunching power and get NOTHING back in return since the switch started: NO information, NO credits, NO discussion.

Time to cut down on LHC.
7) Message boards : Number crunching : What do we crunch for? (Message 16596)

thanks for answering all the questions in such a concise way.

1) The LHC isn't actually finished construction wise. If anyone saw the BBC a few weeks ago there was a lot of coverage on the lowering of CMS into the pit. This being the case there is still a lot of work needing to be done by LHC@home in that respect so don't worry.

2) After the turn on sixtrack will probably be on the go still but we are looking into gettin actual LHC data run on LHC@home but that will involve some work in porting software.

3) Garfield is up in the air and I don't know too much about it but don't worry we are looking at getting other projects onto LHC@home.

It might seem an easy question, but if the project does not come up soon, I do not see what we will be calculating anymore, since the LHC is due to be switched on in 2007. Which brings me to the following questions:

1) Do we already know how to stabilise the beam with the tube?
2) Will the new wus be about something else than the initial setup of the magnets?
3) What about the promissed Garfield wus?

Info from the LHC Page:

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a particle accelerator which is being built at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, the world's largest particle physics laboratory. When it will switch on in 2007, it will be the most powerful instrument ever built to investigate on particles proprieties.

As of autumn 2006, there are plans to distribute a second software package, Garfield, which does simulations of gases in high fields, to simulate the behaviour of particle detectors used at the LHC.

I use BoincLogX v1.12 and it works with LHC.

faster than the 0 to 5 seconds wus I am getting at the moment? ;)
my problem is that I set LHC to about 21% cpu share, but it gets very few cycles on it, because it switches the projects right after those very short wus? any suggestions? (my settings are set to "switch every 60 minutes)

I know that the server is under heavy load at the moment, but I would invite you to enable the results page as soon as possible. This page is crucial to see the progress of the wus and gives information that can be used for bug-tracking.

and thanks for the nicest screen saver once again.

I was unable to merge the two pcs at P@H, but for the same pc I was able to do so here: AMD Athlon64 3400.
